Angie Miller Qualifications: Certified by ACE and AFAA. Certified by NASM as a personal trainer. AFAA certification specialist. Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Master’s Degree in Counseling. Personal History: I grew up in the Midwest and am the youngest of five girls. In elementary school, I lived a semester abroad in Germany. This experience proved invaluable in helping me to understand the world from a more global perspective. It also inspired me to pursue opportunities as a student teacher in Lausanne, Switzerland, and as a guest fitness instructor in Negril, Jamaica. My interest in fitness peaked while I was teaching school. I began taking fitness classes at a local health club and was drawn to the energetic environment of group exercise classes. Witnessing how many individuals could be motivated and encouraged in just one class, I knew right away that this was something I wanted to do. It was a chance to combine my love for fitness and passion for teaching. In her early 60’s, my mom was diagnosed with heart disease. Watching her face these challenges and the challenges of osteoporosis, I have a much greater awareness and appreciation for women’s health issues. It has inspired me to pursue more education and opportunities in the field of health and wellness. I know that, while we cannot change genetics, we can reduce the risks that predispose us to conditions that affect our quality of life. Recently, I've relocated from Scottsdale, Arizona, to a city outside of Chicago. I am married and have two daughters, Malorie and Isabel. Due to the nature of my husband’s career, we have experienced several moves throughout the country. With each move, a new chapter begins and new opportunities and challenges present themselves. I have learned to build a community wherever I am and to feel blessed that I’ve been able to share my passion with so many people. This has been the source of my inspiration. One of my favorite quotes is, “If you focus on what you left behind, you will never be able to see what lies ahead.” Workout Philosophy: Fitness is about balance and an overall sense of well-being. If we think about fitness in terms of how we feel physically and emotionally - as opposed to weight on a scale - it gives us a healthier perspective. There’s not a right way to get fit. It’s your way. The key is to enjoy what you do and schedule it into your day, so that it becomes routine. Then, change it up to keep your body guessing. Success Story: A client who attended my classes 3 to 4 times a week revealed that he had lost 20 pounds in a matter of months.
