Об альбоме (сборнике)
Radio Casual is an exciting new collection of original tunes from guitarist David Blake. The band had been working as a trio, but upon hearing Dabin Ru's piano, David knew he needed to invite her to join the group. What emerged is a powerful performance of group interplay, crystalized as a quartet. This album marks a new direction for Blake, as the compositions explore looser forms and free playing. Featuring Warren Louie on double bass and Jonas Esser on drums.
"David Blake brings modern guitar tones in front with his team of Dabin Ryu/p, Warren Lavie/b and Zanas Esser/dr on this collection of originals. His tone and delivery delivers a hint of allegiance to John Scofield, and that’s a good thing, as the rich lines feel both modern and forward leaning. He and Ryu veer around the hip pulse of “Nut Bread” with aplomb, while Lavie and Esser give an intricate undercurrent to the fiendishly clever “Joe Pass”. The strings get bluesy on the easy glide of “Early Bird Newstand” and he does some marvelous interplay with Lavie on “BC 99 North”, while his thick tone is relaxed and confident on the “Into The Marsh”. Strong airwaves." (George W. Harris, Jazz Weekly)
