Za CD To črleno cvetje, drugi album Varaždin Jazz Banda, njegovi su članovi - Petar Eldan, Aleksandar Vešić i Gordan Perši - obradili međimurske pučke popijevke. Harmonizirali su ih, ponekad intervenirajući u ritmiku i metriku izvornika, proširujući ih uvodima, međuigrama i svršecima te improvizacijama kroz koje otkrivaju zaluđenost jazzom. Iako su najsnažnije prisutni, jazz i narodna glazba tek su neke od glazbenih opsesija članova sastava. U ovim izvedbama prožimaju se s rockom, bossa novom, tangom i klasičnom glazbom. Mnoge skladbe pisane su u asimetričnim mjerama, a česte su i promjene mjera.

After more than twenty years of activity, the Varaždin Jazz Band has recorded its second album. Unlike its first CD Neverland, published by Croatia Records, for which it recorded compositions by its members, the band's leader, pianist Petar Eldan, and saxophonist Gordan Peršij, the Band has prepared arrangements of folk songs from Međimurje, close to all its members, for its second CD, To črleno cvetje, published by Cantus. They have chosen most of them from the collection compiled by Florijan Andrašec. Reaching out to this heritage in order to create new creative values is not new; musicians of various styles do this, thus popularizing the Croatian musical tradition. One of the valuable achievements in this context was made by vibraphonist Boško Petrović and pianist Neven Frangeš in collaboration with prima donna Ruža Pospiš Baldani, who recorded some of the most beautiful songs from Međimurje for the 1987 album Zvira voda, published by Jugoton, including Rožica sem bila, Vehni, vehni fijolica and Vuprem oči, in Petrović's and Frangeš's covers. It is interesting that the people of Varaždin chose only one of the songs included in that release, Rožica sem bila, but under the title To črleno cvetje, which does not mean that they were not equally well-known and valuable works. Their favorites include, among others, Međimurje, kak si liepo, Sako lieto sam si znala ruožice saditi and Lepšega nie kak malo Međimorje. On this occasion, the creative forces of the band are Eldan and Perši, who have prepared arrangements close to mainstream jazz, although traces of other styles such as bossa nova, rock, tango and classical music can also be felt, enriching the well-known songs with interludes and improvisations, but without diminishing the character and beauty of the traditional Međimurje song. Namely, the performances highlight the musicality of the band members, as well as the maturity of the arrangers, who, instead of the extravagance of the soloists, which is characteristic of jazz, paid attention to the appropriate interweaving of styles and musical aesthetics. While on the first CD Denis Peričić's lyrics were sung by the drama artist Barbara Rocco, on the new one Lukrecija Oreški participates as a singer. The members of the first band, bass guitarist Ferdinand Buhanec and drummer Robert Jambrušić, were replaced by Alesandar Vešić and Neven Mehun. With this rejuvenated line-up, the Varaždin Jazz Band documented only one segment of its creativity. Namely, these two albums represent only one part of it and are insufficient for a complete insight into the work of this band.
