Sergei Redkin
Among Russia's rising pianists in the early 2020s, Sergei Redkin has international tours and major prizes to his credit. He has appeared as a soloist with major orchestras in Russia and abroad. Redkin was born in Krasnoyarsk, in Siberia, on October 27, 1991. He took up the piano at age six, studying at a music school in Krasnoyarsk, and was sent to the St. Petersburg Conservatory's special youth music school. Redkin attended the Rimsky-Korsakov State St. Petersburg Conservatory, studying piano with Alexander Sandler and composition with Alexander Mnatsakanyan. Since the late 2000s decade, he has performed regularly at the St. Petersburg Music House, and the management of that venue recommended him for admission to the International Piano Academy Lake Como in Italy in 2011. Redkin went on to the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Waterloo, Belgium, earning an artist diploma after studies with Louis Lortie and Avo Kouyoumdjian. In 2017, he became an artist-in-residence at the Chapel. Redkin won various prizes, beginning at the Paderewski International Competition for Young Pianists in Poland in 2010, a third prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2015, and a second prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels in 2021. By that time, Redkin's concert career was well underway. He has toured not only in Russia but also in western Europe, Israel, the U.S., and Japan. Redkin has appeared with major Russian orchestras, including the Mariinsky Orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, and the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia, as well as the Philharmonia Orchestra in London. He has been visible at western festivals such as the Lucerne and Verbier Festivals in Switzerland. Redkin was featured on an album showcasing the Queen Elisabeth Festival's 2021 prizewinners, and in 2022, he released his debut album, Vagabund, on the Linn label, featuring music by Schumann, Schubert, and Liszt.
