Элида АлмейдаЭлида Алмейда – новая восходящая звезда музыки с Островов Зеленого Мыса. Её дебютный альбом Ora doci, Ora Margos («Приятные моменты, Неприятные моменты») вышел в декабре 2014 на кабо-вердийском лейбле Harmonia, а в мае 2015-го переиздан на французском лейбле Lusafrica. Уроженка Сантьяго (один из островов Кабо-Верде) на этом альбоме рассказывает о судьбе молодой девушки, родившейся и живущей на острове, лишенной всех прелестей современной жизни. Но, благодаря друзьям, людям, которые учат ее петь и играть, ей удается преодолеть все трудности и вырваться в большой мир. Автором всех песен является сама Элида Алмейда. Песни написаны и исполнены в родных для ее народа стилях – морна, батука, фунана. С аранжировкой ей помог отец, известный у себя на родине гитарист Эрнани Алмейда. Элида поет спокойно, мягко, даже парочка веселеньких песен звучит в унисон общей атмосфере альбома, никак не разрывая умиротворяющей ткани всего музыкального полотна. Аккомпанемент самый простецкий – парочка акустических гитар и нехитрая перкуссия. Прекрасный альбом, вызывающий только положительные эмоции и создающий мирную и теплую атмосферу. За дебютником Элида Алмейда выпустила на том же лейбл Lusafrica два мегауспешных диска – мини-альбом Djunta Kudjer (2017) и лонг-плей Kebrada (2017). Вообще, надо заметить, что лейбл Lusafrica, специализирующийся на музыке Африки и островных государств, в частности Кабо-Верде (собственно, он и был создан для популяризации творчества Сезарии Эворы), не реже, чем раз в полгода радует поклонников world music красочной музыкой как известных исполнителей, таких как Бонго и Лура, так и абсолютно новых и молодых, как Элида Алмейда. Несмотря на то, что музыка эта чаще всего бывает грустной, этакой аналогией американского блюза, она все равно оставляет впечатление чего-то доброго, милого и даже родного. Elida AlmeidaElida Almeida (born 1993) is a Cape Verdean singer. Elida was born in Pedra Badejo in the east of Santiago Island. She spent her childhood years with some difficulty, in the mountains of Santiago. At 17, she sang at church, she listened to the radio, she said on that she grew up on a place without electricity or necessities. She worked on radio commentaries, especially with DJs and presenters. She started writing her album Nta Konsiqui. She later presented at local concerts and sang at bars in Cape Verde where she started her career. The producer José da Silva, a resident of France with Cape Verdean origins, which previously worked with Cesária Évora, was interested in her career, her style is very different from the most famous Cape Verdean morna-coladeira singer, more influenced by funaná, batuque, rhythms created by deserted slaves decades ago, but has a different similarity for the expression. Two years later, she made her first album Ora doci, Ora margos, in December 2014, she sang in Portugal and France, later she did her first concerts in France and the United States. In 2015, she took part at Festival Musiques Métisses in Angoulême, and for the first time on stage in Paris in the same month. In November 2015, she was designated a laureate at the RFi awards, made by the jury chaired by the Malian singer Oumou Sangaré. She produced mainly on the African continent even at the start of the Festival des musiques urbaines d'Anoumabo (FEMUA - Anoumabo Urban Music Festival) in Abidjan. Elida Almeida was present at the 2016 Cabo Verde Music Awards (CVMA) together with Hélio Batalha. Info for 'Kebrada'Elida Almeida: a beautiful name of rhythm. Kebrada, Elida’s latest release, is named after the village where she grew up in Cape Verde. Elida Almeida’s Kebrada is beautiful. Whoever is the architect of Kebrada’s songs is fearless and a visionary. Welcome, folks, to song after song of a splendid blend of rhythm and singing that sounds as if it is from the heyday of Afro-Cuban dance bands and the music they inspired throughout Africa. Think Orchestra Baobab, Franco, etc., but fused with traditional and contemporary African music, all sung by such an incredible young woman (she’s just 22). I say fearless because this music sounds like only its elegant self can do and as such is engineered to radiate the confidence of its musical direction. Kebrada must have been a wonderful village to grow up in, judging by the lush brushstrokes we hear in the record. Each song is architected to produce deep feelings and dance, the sort of experience that one covets while alone with one’s thoughts, though at the same time it’s lively and engaging. The first song is “Djam Odja,” which is light, airy and full of energy. Elida’s vocal abilities are impressive throughout. The album’s second song is “Kontam”, a slow jam of rhythmic guitar playing and affirmative singing. The elegance is de rigueur, as it is in every song, even in”Nha Rainha”, the most pop-like song on the album. “Nha Rainha” sounds the most personal to Elida, but that may be because of associating its sound with her image. Kebrada’s most impressive song is “N’kreu”. Rhythmically, it sparkles. Vocally, Elida asserts herself formidably. If it were not for her assertiveness, this album may have failed. It’s a brave project to undertake, fusing yesterday’s energy to the music of today but with a smaller band. It took a musician to stand firm in her convictions, which Elida does admirably. The Havana that gave birth to the great Afro-Latin bands of yesteryear, playing rhythms from African religion, orchestrated to dance urbanites, had been lost to time, its communist descendent, in the end, no producer of such style, or at least as much as it was before. In Africa, boys and girls listen much less to such Afro-Latin music and its African versions nowadays, although it is central to the way that most popular African music is arranged. It’s fascinating that Elida proposes to us such music that signifies her village upbringing in Kebrada, all the while sporting a postmodern ‘hairdo’.
