The second-generation Deutsche Bahn ICE 2 is synonymous with stylish high speed train
travel in Germany, and now you can take control of this cool express train in Train Simulator.
The ICE 2 is the second class of high speed train serving the German railway network, built
between 1995 and 1997 as an enhanced high speed unit to its predecessor, the ICE 1. Its
main purpose was to enable smaller train units to be built which could be coupled to or
uncoupled from other units as needed. The resulting ICE 2 featured one power car, six
passenger cars and an unpowered cab car with a top speed of 174mph (280km/h), instead of
two power cars and up to 14 passenger cars as was the consist of the ICE 1.
The ICE 2 is similar in appearance externally to the ICE 1 but an airline-style seating
arrangement provides enhanced passenger accommodation over its predecessor. The ICE
trains are also fitted with a high standard of technology, including audio jacks for on-board
music and radio, full air conditioning and some seats benefiting from seat-back video
displays.
In total, more than 40 eight-car units have been built and each has passenger capacity for
almost 400 people. The ICE 2 mainly operates within Germany with some units licensed to
run in Austria and Switzerland.

The BR423 is a familiar sight on Germany's city commuter routes and this popular EMU
(electric multiple unit) is ideal for running passenger services on your German routes in Train
Simulator.
Built over a nine year period from 1998 and a top speed of 140km/h (87mph), the BR423 is
an ideal high capacity multiple unit to operate frequent stopping services on S-Bahn routes
across Germany's main city and countryside regions. In total, 462 units four car units were
built by Adtranz/Bombardier, ALSTOM and ABB.
The BR423 for Train Simulator is available in Deutsche Bahn red livery and features internal
passenger view, functioning SIFA driver vigilance system, PZB90 warning system and LZB in-
cab signalling.

The loud and grating noises of a BR232 'Ludmilla' make this former Soviet diesel locomotive
a favourite among German rail fans, and now you can take control of this heavy freighter in
Train Simulator.
Originally built in the Ukraine between 1970 and 1982, the BR232 (then the DR Class 132)
was originally imported into the former German Democratic Republic (GDR). The locomotive
formed part of the DR 130 family of locomotives, which also included the DR Class 130, Class
142 and DR Class 131. More than 700 units in the DR 130 family were produced on a steel
framework structure with attached body, giving them a different external look to the
normally refined and sleek German locomotives.
During GDR times, many of the Class pulled any trains that were generally fast or heavy, from
express passenger trains on non-electrified lines or coal and lime trains weighing more than
2,000 tonnes.
Following the reunification of Germany, Deutsche Bahn inherited the DR 130 family of
locomotives, mainly as heavy freight locomotives but occasionally to head passenger
services. Nicknamed 'Ludmilla', many locomotives could be seen working services from
Germany's main cities, including Hamburg, Kassel, Nuremburg and Kiel.
Today, most of the former DR 130 locomotive family have been withdrawn from service but
some continue to ply their trade on Intercity passenger services and freight operations. Only
a handful of BR232 locomotives remain in service for DB.
The BR232 for Train Simulator is available in Deutsche Bahn Orient Red and Traffic Red, and
Railion liveries and features functioning SiFa driver vigilance system, dynamic braking,
switchable fuel pump and drive mode, cab lighting, sun visors, Facns, Shimms and Hbbills
freight wagons.

The three-car BR 420 electric multiple unit (EMU) has plied its trade across many of
Germany's city S-Bahn networks, and is now available for Train Simulator with scenarios for
the Munich-Augsburg route.
In total, 480 units were built for the S-Bahn networks of Munich, Frankfurt and Stuttgart
between 1969 and 1997, before being largely replaced by the Class 423. Initially, the three-
car units were constructed from steel, before being built using aluminium, making the cars
more lightweight and capable of carrying a heavier payload.
A top speed of 120 km/h (75mph) and quick acceleration made these units ideal for the
commuter stopping services in Germany's larger cities, however the class' retirement saw
many units scrapped, although some have survived and still operate on the Rhine-Ruhr S-
Bahn network.
The BR 420 for Train Simulator, developed by Michael Fruchtl, is available in Deutsche Bahn's
distinctive red and white livery and features combined throttle and brake control, SIFA driver
vigilance device, PZB warning system, operating sun visors, cab and desk lighting, automatic
couplings, and configurable destination displays.

Expand your collection of modern German passenger trains with the introduction of the DB
BR 440 to Train Simulator.
The DB BR 440, or Coradia Continental is a family of high speed commuter trains designed
for S-Bahn services throughout Germany. They were first built in 2008 as DB needed an S-
Bahn EMU designed for high speeds and long distance journeys that could travel alongside
their ICE services, with a top speed of 160km/h (100mph), it was more than capable. These
units were also designed with the environment in mind, meaning up to 95 percent of the
EMU is recyclable once they reach the end of their lives.
The BR 440 was a development on the popular BR 424/425 S-Bahn EMUs with modern day
improvements such as moving most of the underfloor equipment onto the roof of the unit,
this resulted in a consistent lower floor, providing step-free access from platform to car. With
this low floor design, the BR 440 was designed to cater for disabled passengers including
spacious areas for wheelchairs and disabled toilets for those who need them. The other main
advantage of moving the underfloor equipment was it was kept well above the track, making
maintenance easier and reducing the risk of damage due to the excess ice that can build up
around the track in the colder months.
The Train Simulator DB BR 440 'Coradia Continental' is available in Deutsche Bahn Traffic Red
Livery and recreates the EMU as it operates today for DB over the Munich – Augsburg route.
The pack includes a trio of career scenario for the route, recreating the well-known Fugger-
Express services the units are renowned for.
