Running from Sheffield to Manchester via the rugged landscape of the Pennines, the
Woodhead Line was electrified way back in the early 1950s with the Class 76 electric
locomotive being built especially for the line. A major feature of the route is the Woodhead
Tunnel system, comprising three tunnels (the third being added specifically for the
electrification of the line) to enable the line to run through the hilly landscape of the
northern Peak District.
The Class 76 electric locomotive was first produced as a prototype (6701) in 1941, with full
production beginning in 1950 in Manchester. Under British Rail, Class 76s hauled freight and
passenger services along the Woodhead Line until 1970, after which they handled only
freight workings. Now closed to traffic since 1981, the Woodhead Line and its tunnels are
still a regular destination for rail enthusiasts and hikers, and they have now been brought
back to life in Train Simulator.

The Class 77 and 76 Add-On puts some high-voltage haulage on the Woodhead Line!
Created as an add-on for the Woodhead Line Expansion Pack, the Class 77 and 76 Add-On
includes both of these wonderful early electric locomotives with accurate liveries spanning
the Woodhead electric era.
The Class 77 (originally named the EM2) electric locomotive was built in Manchester
between 1953 and 1954, primarily designed for express passenger services between
Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield Victoria on the Woodhead Line. The class 77 was closely
based on the Class 76, though with two extra axles and uncoupled bogies to give a smoother
ride. Each of its six axles was driven by a 460-horsepower traction motor, and the class 77
also benefited from steam heating equipment for passenger trains. The Class 76 was
essentially similar, though with only four axles and slightly different controls. The Class 76
ran until the closure of the Woodhead Line in 1981, while the Class 77s were sold to
Netherlands State Railways and continued in service.
Дополнение содержит
• Class 77 Co-Co electric locomotive in BR Black, BR Green and BR AC Electric Blue
• Class 76 Bo-Bo electric locomotive in BR Green
• Both locomotives have accurate in-cab controls including switchable traction modes and
regenerative braking systems, as well as sun blinds and in-cab lighting.
• 5 scenarios for the Woodhead Line Expansion Pack plus 4 free roams.

The Robinson O4 is a workhorse from the days of British steam, and you can now drive this
faithful old 'kettle' in Train Simulator, with scenarios specially created for the Woodhead
Line.
The O4 has its origins in the Great Central Railway Class 8K 2-8-0 steam locomotive, of
which the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) acquired more than 300 examples
under the grouping process between 1923 and 1927. Using the 8K as a basis, John G.
Robinson developed the O4 utilising a super-heated boiler and larger cylinders and valve
gear, then adding a front pony truck to carry the extra weight. Used for hauling heavy freight
trains, the O4s proved their capabilities and 92 were requisitioned for war work in the Middle
East in 1941, with many more 300 remaining in service in the UK until final withdrawal of the
class in 1966.
The O4 for Train Simulator is highly-detailed with realistic sounds and controls including
operating cylinder cocks - just watch out for the clouds of steam!
Ключевые особенности
• Robinson O4 steam locomotive in British Railways black livery with lion-and-wheel
emblem
• 4 scenarios for the Woodhead Line
• Quick Drive compatible

The London and North Eastern Railway's mixed traffic Thompson B1 Class locomotive is now
available for Train Simulator, and includes scenarios specially created for the popular
Woodhead Line.
Designed by Edward Thompson, chief mechanical engineer for the LNER, the prototype for
the new 4-6-0 'B Class' (later classified as 'B1 Class') was the first two-cylinder main line
locomotive built by the LNER. The B1 was designed for medium mixed traffic use but also had
the requirement of being cheap to produce due to wartime and post-war economies. The B1s
operated across the LNER network and more than 400 were built between 1942 and 1952.
However, with the change in British Railways policies the Class was withdrawn in the 1960s,
long before the end of its expected economic working life.
The Thompson B1 for Train Simulator is available in British Railway black livery with lion-and-
wheel emblem. In game features include fully detailed and operational locomotive cab
interior, spectacular Pennines scenery and the famous Woodhead Tunnel system.

The Hunslet LNER/BR J94 saddle tank from Meshtools is now available for Train Simulator
with exciting new scenarios specially created for the Woodhead Line.
The J94 originally entered service in 1937 as the Hunslet Class 50550. At the outbreak of
World War II, the War Department amended the design to allow for speedier and cheaper
production of this general purpose 0-6-0 saddle tank, and the Hunslet Austerity tank was
born. A preferred locomotive for shunting yards and around shipyards and docks, the J94
was an agile locomotive thanks to its short wheelbase and efficient hauling capacity.
After the War, 75 J94s were transferred to the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) and
subsequently to British Railways, and incredibly the Class continued in production for the
National Coal Board almost until the end of British main line steam in the late 1960s.
The LNER/BR J94 with scenarios for the Woodhead Line is available for Train Simulator with
two liveries – LNER black and early BR black – and includes two versions of the locomotive -
a standard version which can be driven with simple controls using the in-game HUD and an
advanced version with accurate steam controls requiring manual operation of the in-cab
controls.
Ключевые особенности
• LNER/BR J94 in LNER black livery and early BR black livery
• Standard driving version and advanced driving version
• Accurate in-cab steam controls
• Quick Drive compatible

BR GT3 Turbine

One of the more unusual locomotives ever to be built, the GT3 Gas Turbine Prototype is
nevertheless part of British railway history and is now available for Train Simulator from
Victory Works.
The GT3 was part of a programme for the development of gas turbine locomotives started in
the late 1940s. Designed by English Electric engineer JOP Hughes, construction of the GT3
began in the early 1950s at their Vulcan Foundry works in Newton-le-Willows.
The desire to minimise the number of changes as the locomotive developed and make use of
existing machining tools led to the GT3’s rather odd design choice of a 4-6-0 wheel
arrangement with a single driving cab at the rear of the locomotive, much like a steam
engine - other locomotive being conceived had a cab at each end, removing the need for
locomotives to be turned at the end of journeys.
The 2,700hp EM27L Gas Turbine was a two-stage gas turbine with a mechanical gearbox
driving directly to the wheels, most efficient when running at high speed. It was also
incredibly lightweight, so much so that the locomotive’s frames were three times thicker
than those on similarly sized steam locomotives simply to add weight so it could have the
required traction.
Continuing its steam locomotive heritage, the GT3 also had a traditional tender, which
contained 2,000 gallons of fuel oil, and a vertical boiler with 1,765 gallons of water to supply
it.
After static testing at Rugby, the GT3 was run on the Great Central Main Line and the West
Coast Main Line, including the famous Shap incline. It was also part of the Marylebone
Rolling Stock Exhibition of 1961 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Institute of
Locomotive Engineers. However, the popularity of diesel and electric traction saw the GT3
withdrawn and returned to Vulcan Foundry in 1962, being scrapped at nearby Salford in
February 1966
The GT3 Turbine for Train Simulator, developed by Victory Works, is available in original
demonstrator and fictional British Rail blue liveries, and features simulated turbine flood
when overfilled, working window demister on cold days, optional manual cold start
sequence, battery isolation switches, opening cab doors and windows, configurable head
codes/tail lights, exhaust heat haze and tender interior view. Also included are worn Mk1
maroon passenger coaches.
The locomotive is also Quick Drive compatible, giving you the freedom to drive the BR GT3
Turbine on any Quick Drive enabled route for Train Simulator, such as those available
through Steam. Also included are scenarios specifically for the Woodhead route (available
separately and required to play these scenarios).
