Lady Lex
Debut album from the delightful Lady Lex. Produced of course by the Peckings Brothers; Chris and Duke, scions of the great George Peckings who ran the legendary Peckings Studio One record shop in Askew Road, Shepherds Bush, a magnet for reggae lovers over the years, and the location of Lex's impromptu audition, when she sang for a bemused Chris one day in 2004 and convinced him that she had something to offer. Recording sessions were arranged and a succession of popular singles have emerged since for the Peckings label and many others. Here Chris and Duke have selected a peerless set of classic and obscure original Studio One and Treasure Isle rhythm tracks for Lex's original songs and well chosen covers including Etta James' At Last, Slim Smith's My Conversation. Lex's story is detailed in the booklet and proves to be an interesting one, including the nugget that her real name is Karen Moon and that she is second cousin to the late Who drummer Keith Moon!
