Kalle Mattson recently issued a new 7-inch, promising that a full-length would be close behind. Sure enough, the Ottawa roots songwriter has now confirmed the details of Someday, the Moon Will Be Gold, which will be out on February 11 via Parliament of Trees.
The album was produced by Gavin Gardiner of the Wooden Sky and, as previously revealed, additionally features guest appearances by Jeremy Fisher and members of Cuff the Duke.
The album was written in Mattson's childhood home of Sault Ste. Marie, and the lyrics apparently find the 22-year-old coming to terms with the passing of his mother, who died five years ago.
"I had written about my mom in the past but never as honest as I was on all of these new songs," said Mattson in a statement. "I wanted to fully put down my own story. In a lot of ways I felt like all I had left was this record and finishing it. What I had put off for five years all came back to me in that house and I dealt with it by writing."
Despite the tragic subject matter, he notes, "In a lot of ways this is a record about hope."
