Страна Germany (München, Bavaria) In den 80er und frühen 90er Jahren gab es in Deutschland eine blühende Heavyrock-Szene. THE ROXX war die sicherlich schillerndste Formation dieser Zeit. Obwohl sie in keine Schublade paßte: Fans der NWOBHM mit Bands wie Judas Priest oder Iron Maiden, aber auch der 70er Legenden wie Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin oder Deep Purple sind hier ebenso richtig wie Fans von Show Größen wie Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson oder Rammstein. Alles an dieser Band um den extrovertierten und charismatischen 4-Oktaven Frontmann Billy Itch war skurril, irgendwie anders, irgendwie geheimnisvoll. Die Auftritte von THE ROXX waren nicht nur eine Demonstration erstklassiger musikalische Handarbeit, sondern immer und vor allem auch sehr sehenswerte SHOWS. Dass Billy Itch des Öfteren mit Rob Halford von Judas Priest verglichen wird, damit kann er nach eigenen Aussagen leben. Gehört dieser doch zu den besten Rock-Shoutern weltweit. Zitat Billy Itch: "Früher war´s Ian Gillan von Deep Purple, heute ist es Halford. Die Leute brauchen eben immer irgendeinen Vergleich…"
Bereits auf ihrem legendären 86er Erstlingswerk Sugar And Spice -verpackt in Luftblasenfolie und heute hochdotiertes Sammlerstück - waren mit Boy Bitch, On The Roxx und V.R.Alien 2.U. drei Klassiker, die in den Discos rauf und runter gespielt wurden. Durch Aufnahme in die legendären Munich City Nights - Sampler erlangten sie höchsten Kultstatus. Es folgten die Alben Watch Us Cum (1988) und Sex & Roxx & Rock`n´ Roll Part I und Part II (1990). Hier gelangen THE ROXX mit einer ungewöhnlich arrangierten und harten Coverversion des Gassenhauers Wild Thing und der fantastischen Ballade Maybe zwei weitere Volltreffer, ebenfalls vertreten auf Munich City Nights. Typisch für THE ROXX: Wild Thing gab es auf einer auf 960 Stück limitierten Maxisingle, verpackt in einem Pizzakarton mit einer leeren (!) B-Seite.
Mit No Sole Messiah! folgte 1992 das musikalisch herausragendste Album von THE ROXX. Es zeigt die extreme stilistische Vielfalt der Band, die nie einfach nur eine Heavyrock-Formation war. Auf No Sole Messiah! verschmilzt Heavyrock mit Einflüssen von Dixieland, indischen Sitar-Klängen oder Gothic-Elementen zu einem harmonischen Ganzen, das nur schwer in gängige Schubladen paßt und einen staunenden Zuhörer hinterläßt. Die 94er LiveCD Wild Things Live war die zunächst letzte VÖ der Band. Power und Spielfreude sind hier eindrucksvoll konserviert. Wer THE ROXX jemals live gesehen hat, hört dieses Album mit einem lachenden und einem weinenden Auge. 1995 trennten sich die Wege der Musiker, die in verschiedensten musikalischen Projekten aktiv waren. Ihre Alben werden bis heute auf ebay versteigert.
Zum 20-jährigen Jubiläum von Sugar and Spice haben sich THE ROXX in ihrer Stammbesetzung wieder zusammengefunden. Zitat Billy Itch: "Wir spielten ein paar Takte. Alles war wie früher, die Power, die Kreativität, die Magie". Nach einer einzigen Bandprobe waren zwei neue Songs fertig. Das neue Album ist fast im Kasten. Also kam es wie es kommen mußte: THE B.Itch IS BACK!

The Roxx cover an impressing variability in style, so fans of NWOBHM like Iron Maiden or Judas Priest can`t go wrong listening to The Roxx, as well as 70ies legends as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple or show-heroes like ALlice Coooper, Marilyn Manson or Rammstein. There was always something mysterious surrounding the band and lead singer Billy Itch, who covers the unbelievable range of 4 octaves. The Roxx concerts are a demonstration of first class handmade music, as well as shows worth to watch. Billy doesn`t mind to be compared with Rob Halford: »It is a pleasure and honour to me. He is one of the best rock singers worldwide. In former years it was Ian Gillan, now it`s Rob Halford. People always need that kind of comparisons ...«. The first period of The Roxx started in 1984 with legendary show concerts. Today the first edition of The Roxx 1st album “Sugar & Spice” from 1986 with its remarkable plastic-bubble cover is a high priced collector´s item. Songs like ON THE ROXX, BOY BITCH and VR ALIEN 2U were standard reportoire of the DJs and can be heard on the collection Munich City Nights as well. “Sugar & Spice” was followed by Watch us Cum (been badly modified and bootlegged as “Get it Hot” all over Europe and Russia as well; in Russia rumours were spread that “Get it Hot” is a project of Rob Halford and Metallica`s bass player Jason Newstead; many people there still don`t know that The Roxx is The Roxx). The following album “Chills Down Your Spine” (1989) was never released, as Animale, the guitar player, died from cancer. This marked the end of The Roxx first period. Animale was followed by L.X. Gaitanides, who is in the band up to now. In the second period The Roxx became more of a heavy metal band. Billy Itch´s creativity in song-writing, the enourmous technical variability of the new guitar hero L.X. Gaitanides, combined with the straight power of Mr. Sudden on the drums made the new style of The Roxx. Bass players changed. Sex & Roxx & Rock 'n' Roll Part I and Sex & Roxx & Rock 'n' Roll Part II were the next albums to be released (1990). The wonderful ballade “Maybe” made it into the charts and can be heard on Part II. The limited vinyl EP Wild Thing (960 copies) hat an empty B-side! The 1992 album No Sole Messiah! showed the peak of The Roxx stylistic variability. Indian sitars, Dixieland banjos, gothic elements combined with heavyrock classics left the listener impressed and surprised. The 1994 live album “Wild Things Live” marks the begin of a longer break. Everyone who saw The Roxx real live can`t help one eye from laughing and the other from crying when listening to Wild Things Live. The 1995 album “Dominator” was never finished. Only a few bootlegged rough mixes found their way to the fans. The musicians went their own ways in several bands and music projects for the next decade. The 20th anniversary of “Sugar & Spice” remarks the beginning of the third band period. The anniversary was reason enough to reunion the band with B.Itch, L.X. Gaitanides, F. Sudden and the new face on the bass Martin Motnik. Billy: »We performed some songs and nothing was missing. The magic, the creativity, the power.«. After the first rehearsal two new songs were finished. These songs can be heard on the EP CD Trigger/RIP and keeps the fans hungry for the new CD “Word Of Mouth” to be released in 2007. The fantastic reunion show at Munich Metropolis Music Hall on December 15th 2006 was recorded live on DVD. The reunion DVD will be released soon as well. The B.ITCH is back! Эта одна из потрясающих хэви групп Германии 80-ых, к сожалению, мало кому знакома на нашем просторе. В начале 90-х эту запись альбома 1990 - Get It Hot выдавали за проект Халфорда. Этот диск представляет собой нарезку первых 2 альбомов. На CD, они практически не выпускались, кроме последних лет.
помнится лет 10 назад группа хорошо котировалась и сравнивали ее с Judas Priest. Решил попробовать Watch Us Cum. Ну да, временами голос похож на Халфорда тембром, но сравнивать по мощи и вокальной мелодике я бы их пожалуй не стал...кто-то сильно погорячился отвалив немцу 4 октавы:)
Альбом интересный, но скорее странный, чем клевый: с одной стороны присутствуют неплохие металлические гитарные рифы, с другой стороны все это в немецком духе несколько упрощенно звучит +куча электронники в звуке (иногда кажется, что сейчас после рифа раздастся крик Скутера). Что то вроде смеси панка с новой волной в духе Билла Айдола с добавлением тевтонского металла в гитарном звуке (в духе подражателей Прист, коих в ГДР в свое время хватало) ...ну и традиционные для немцев хоровые рефрены-выкрики.
ps Барабанщик Том Том=либо это кличка драм машины, либо его присутствие было эпизодическим.
