End of status report

Dutch band Arabesque's first offering is an all instrumental, technical metal/fusion fest. These three members collectively show that with skill and imagination, the power trio can still and always will be a significant contributor to progressive music. The music they play is highly technical, mathematical fusion, showing precision teamwork, and masterful execution through each composition. The main feature seems to be Wolters' guitar. He plays in style that is reminiscent of Vai, Malmsteen, MacAlpine & Satriani, and his flamboyant abilities throw complex melodies over the already perplexing rhythm section of Tromp and Van Mierlo. As I listen through each song, the band seldom ventures into mundanity, they are steadily playing in high octane mode. Bassist Barend Tromp, also playing Chapman stick, is a very talented player, he uses chords and mesmeric patterns, holding down not only the rhythm section, but coloring the music with his tonal mastery. He is truly a gifted player, and he brings the level of this band to greater heights. The drumming of Van Mierlo, also has to be acknowledged. He is able to genre-bounce with nothing but flare, as this band can jump from fusion to progressive metal in a heartbeat. The demand on the drummer in this music is incredible, constant meter changes, and exacted syncopation are a must, he shows that he not only meets these demands, but colors them with verve. I understand that Arabesque has now become a vocal band, and I am not certain if they a straying away from this style or not, but I can highly recommend this very hard to find CD to those who like the following artists: Liquid Tension Experiment, Tony Macalpine, Anomaly(Netherlands), Elysian (Netherlands, Wolters was in this bands also), Lemur Voice(Tromps old band), Brand X, Planet X, or any intense, technical instrumental music.
