ревью с Ugly Things
Yeah Yeah Yeah So you got all the Teenage Shutdowns and you're still jonesin' for some more `60s garage punk to gunk up yer ears? You could do a lot worse than these two sets from Arf! Arf!: budget priced (on their Cheep! Cheep! imprint, geddit?), generously filled (28 tracks, most never before comped), and well-mastered from clean 45s. There's no liners (all in the name of keeping the price low, apparently) but you do get color shots of most of the labels, if you get off on that sort of thing. Yeah Yeah Yeah presents the uptempo side of the coin, while No No No flips you the more maudlin minor key grooves. It's not a bad concept, but mixing the two together might have made for a more diverse listening experience. As it is, each of them tends to drag a bit, especially No No No, because after a while your brain's looking for something more than G Minor to A Minor, or E Minor to D Minor, or whatever (you get the picture). That's not to say these don't have plenty of strong cuts to recommend them. On Yeah, I'd direct you to the Rockin' Roadrunners' "Down", the Barons' "Drawbridge" and Midnight Shift's "Never Gonna Stop Lovin You" - to name just three worth extracting and blasting on a regular basis. On No No No, the most moody and magnetic include the Syndicate's "She Haunts You", the Bounty Hunters' "The Sun Went Away" and long time fave "Feelin' Sad And Lonely" by the Bush. - Mike Stax (Originally published in Ugly Things #17, 1999)
