Supernal Endgame's genesis was in the year 2000 when John Eargle and Rob Price shared the vision to form a band with a spiritual emphasis, fusing symphonic progressive rock and artsy power-pop. Soon they had recruited other musicians, (notably Dan Pomeroy, with whom they had played before) to share this vision. A healthy dose of "pomp rock," celtic folk, along with a touch of ambient music were also thrown into the mix to create a diverse yet cohesive sound, with arrangements in which tin whistles, violins, djembe, etc. play a role along with the more "traditional tools" of rock music. The influence of bands like Yes, Kansas, Rush, Transatlantic, and Genesis are evident enough ... but when these elements are infused with the intelligent pop of bands like Keane, Mutemath, The Corrs, and Jellyfish, along with the spiritual sensibilities of Iona and Neal Morse, you are well on your way to describing the music of Supernal Endgame - thoughtful compositions imbued with a ton of hooks. Band members came and went through the years, until the band decided to record as a trio (John, Rob, and Dan). The result of this was a unique "worship" project that was dubbed "Touch the Sky." So far, two "Touch the Sky" albums have been recorded and released. "Touch the Sky, Volume I" was released on the Progrock Records label on March 30th 2010, and will soon be reissued on 10T Records. This first album features special guests Roine Stolt (of The Flower Kings and Transatlantic) and Randy George (of Ajalon and the Neal Morse band). "Touch the Sky: Volume II" was released on August 19th, 2014 by 10T Records, and will be available everywhere on September 16th. Like "Volume I," this follow up album boasts nearly 80 minutes of music (which would have been a "double album" back in the days when the vinyl disc ruled the music world), and it features guest guitar work from Carl Baldassarre (Syzygy) and Dave Bainbridge (Iona), along with a vocal assist from Laura Casale and mastering by Rob Perez (Visual Cliff). In the wake of the release of "Touch the Sky" albums, reviewers and listeners alike have had many kind words for the project. "I just love a good hook and a good melody and Supernal Endgame has it in droves. I was really excited to get these guys on the label.” said Shawn Gordon, President of ProgRock Records. “From my very first listen, I knew that Supernal Endgame was producing a sound that immediately spoke to my own personal musical heritage,” says 10T Records president, Steve Carroll. “I also appreciate their desire to bring a heartfelt spiritual sincerity into their lyrical message. I was instantly reminded of vintage Kansas in that respect.” The sheer number of enthusiastic international reviews for the two-part "Touch the Sky" project has been a very pleasant surprise to the band. (Refer to the press page to see excerpts). The Summer of 2010 brought two new members to the band. Tom More on bass guitar and Jett Cheek on keyboards. Generally a guest violinist plays with the band in live gigs, while the search for a "permanent" sixth member continues. In the Summer of 2011, Dan Pomeroy left the band to pursue another vision (although both his songwriting and guitar-slinging skills can be heard on a couple of songs from the second album). New guitarist, John Crafton has stepped in to take over Pomeroy's duties, rounding out the band in its present incarnation. During the four years between the release of "Volume I" and "Volume II," Supernal Endgame has contributed music to other projects as well. Their version of Roine Stolt's “The Flower King” was included on Colossus Magazine’s tribute album “A Flower Full Of Stars: A Tribute To The Flower Kings” on the Musea label, released in the Summer of 2011. They contributed a track to the CPR 4 compilation, which was released about the same time. Their cover version of the song “Parallels” (originally recorded by Yes) can be heard on a Yes tribute album entitled “Tales From the Edge," which is out on the Mellow label, and is available on Bandcamp. Finally, a demo version of "Immutable" (from the new album) was made available for release as part of "The Haiti Relief Projekt" in the Spring of 2010. Currently the band is gearing up to promote the new album (and the "Touch the Sky" collection in its entirety). At the same time, much of their next full-length album has already been written, and recording will soon commence on a work that is provisionally entitled "The Presence of the Future." 10/10
