Throughout the past few years, we’ve been seeing new acts display great maturity in their music. We’ve seen this trend in all different genres, whether with orchestral-pop groups like London Grammar, or intricate electronic acts like Tennyson, and now, we’ve another name to add to the list. FURNS is that name, and with their debut album, the Danish duo comprised of Monika Faludi (vocals) and Mathias Dahl Andreasen (production), has solidly established their musical maturity through a soothing, downtempo style. So far this one, we advise you relax for awhile and get lost in the warm, tranquil vibes the album emits.
If you’ve never listened to FURNS before, their introductory track, “Hang On”, is going to be great place to start. It features all of the group’s essential components: some smooth keys, downtempo percussion, and Faludi’s free-flowing, effortless croon. As you’ll soon discover, too, this is a formula they use throughout the entire album, but since their sound is so captivating, we never tire of it.
In another track titled “Beyond”, Dahl Andreasen contributes an intergalactic vibe by sliding in some celestial electronic, and with “True Longing”, the two give off a slightly more upbeat feel through a gently pumping beat. “Fadin’” sees FURNS make use of funky synth chords atop unique percussion, and we hear Monika flex her gorgeous vocals alongside a lone keyboard in “Only the Curious Knows”.
