By self financing they recorded the first version of We Didn't Know What To Do (Lo Yadanu Ma La'asot) on March 1973. Danny played the piano, Efraim played the bass guitar.
Danny told Yitzhak Klapter (guitar) (http://kaveret.tripod.com/nbmembe.htm#yk) about the band and invited him to the rehearsals at his home. Yitzhak came and heard Self Service (Sherut Atzmi), and decided to join the band.
Efraim invited Yonny Rechter (keyboards) (http://kaveret.tripod.com/nbmembe.htm#yr) whom he knew from a previous band. Yonny was excited by the opera concept, but he didn't know whether to join or not. After they told him they started looking for other players, he was convinced and joined the band. Alon came back from America and joind the band too.
Looking for a name for the band, Yitzhak suggested "20,000 On The Road". Danny suggested "Beehive" (perhaps inspired by "The Beatles"...?). "What is a beehive?" Efraim asked. "Kaveret" (in Hebrew) Danny replied. "Sounds like a Kibutz band's name" Efraim said, but Danny said "It's a good name for a band..."
On April 1973 they recorded their second single Self Service (Sherut Atzmi) (A friend, Asher Bitansky helped financing it). In addition, they recorded a new official version of We Didn't Know What To Do (Lo Yadanu Ma La'asot) as a B-Side. The Singles failed in the charts. Asher Bitansky tried talking to different managers, but he had no luck.
On May 1973 Gidi and Efraim were offered (not together) to sing in a songs festival (sort of a local Eurovision). They agreed because they thought it would help exposing the band. Efraim sang together with Hanan Yovel and Yardena Arazi a song named Leil Hanaya and Gidi sang a song nameed Ya'ale Veyavo. Both of them failed (Gidi got to the last place).
One of Israel's most important producers, Avraham Deshe (Pashanel) liked Gidi's performance and got in touch with him and Kaveret. He heard the opera, got enthusiastic and they started rehearsing more serously.
After the premiere Deshe decided the concept wasn't working and told them to split the opera into a show of songs and sketches, instead of songs combined with sketches.
On June 15 they performed on stage and the word was out. Kaveret was signed in "Hed-Arzi" and started recording in "Triton" - a new improved studio. They had no producer or musical arranger - they did all by themselves.
The single The Crux Of The Matter (Po Kavur HaKelev) was released but in the radio broadcasters claimed the lyrics were silly. After a month or so the song started climbing in the charts.
The B-Side was Adulterous Boots (HaMagafaim Shel Baruch) (WAV 43K) which was a hit. Kaveret was a hit too. They performed 32 times a month infront of full auditoriums.
In October the "Yom Kipur" war started and Kaveret had an important role in raising the soldier's moods, which contributed to their success.
On November 1973 the album Poogy Tales (Sipurey Poogy) was released. The cover was drawn by Itamar Noiman - a friend of Danny from the military service. The name Danny Sanderson appeared on the cover 35 times.
The Cold Shoulder (BaYom UBalaila) was written by Danny and Melissa Connel when they were in a band called The Catacombs at the age of 15. Danny wrote new lyrics for it. On the album's cover, her name was mis-spelled in Hebrew and was written as "M. Coggel".
Things Could Be Better (Yeled Mizdaken) was written as a joke in Dory Ben Ze'ev's radio show. Meir sang the lyrics, talking about Poogy getting elecrified. Alon thought it's a shame to waste the tune and wrote new lyrics for it.
On the CD, scratch noises can be heard at the beginning of We Didn't Know What To Do (Lo Yadanu Ma La'asot), most likely a result of a fault re-mastering.
Joseph What's Up? (Yossi Ma Nishma?) was written by Danny for teaching Yehuda Eder, the Nahal band's new guitar player (instead of Danny), and later a member in Doda, how to play like him.
The song Adulterous Boots (HaMagafaim Shel Baruch), which became a huge success, was mis-spelled both on vinyl and CD and was written as Abulterous Boots.
It's Been Nice (Nechmad)'s opening line "I've got only one thing to say to you on behalf of us all... It's been..." (Yesh li rak davar ehad lomar lachem beshem kulam... Haya...) is said by Alon.
The bonus track Efraim's Boots (HaMagafaim Shel Efraim) was actually a live improvisation, spoofing Adulterous Boots (HaMagafaim Shel Baruch) (in Hebrew: Baruch's Boots).
By the end of 1973 the album was sold in 70,000 copies (a huge amount for an Israeli record). Kaveret was crowned as the band of the year, and in the annual charts Adulterous Boots (HaMagafaim Shel Baruch) was number 1, The Grocery Store (Shir HaMakolet) was number 3 and The Crux Of The Matter (Po Kavur HaKelev) was number 16.

Kaveret was chosen by The Israeli Broadcasting Authority (Rashut Ha'Shidur) to represent Israel in the Eurovision contest, due to their success. Danny Sanderson and Alon Oleartchik wrote the song I Gave Her My Life (Natati La Hayay) and Kaveret started rehearsing. The orchestral arrangement was written by Noam Sharif.
600 Million people watched the Eurovision throughout the world that year. Since the Eurovision policy demands a six members or less band, Yonny Rechter didn't get on stage. Instead he conducted the orchestra. Danny had a little problem just before getting on stage - his guitar cable got stuck on something, so he had to pull it out. Luckily, Kaveret performed with a playback.
Abba won with the song Waterloo, and Kaveret got to the 7th place. Later on, Danny said they looked ridiculous, or in his own words: "Something from Turkey, from the 17th century".
Kaveret Issued a Europian single, which included English version of I Gave Her My Life (Natati La Hayay) now named She Looked Me In The Eye as an A-Side, and an English version of Adulterous Boots (HaMagafaim Shel Baruch) now named Morris And His Turtle as a B-Side. The translations were made all by Danny. The single failed to reach the charts in Europe.
Meanwhile in Israel, some thought it was inappropriate to represnt Israel with I Gave Her My Life (Natati La Hayay), claiming the title is a political reference to prime minister Golda Meir, and that the line "There's enough space for a country or two" referred to the Palestinians living in Israel.
Kaveret got back and started touring again with the Poogy Tales show, which included songs that were excluded from the album. Kaveret started recording its next album, Poogy In A Pitah (Poogy BePitah), which was released in mid-1974. Most of the songs weren't new - some of them were from the original opera, some were performed in the Poogy Tales show but never recorded officialy by the band.
The song Sometimes Yes, Sometimes No (Moshe Ken, Moshe Lo) was originally a song Danny wrote during his military service, and was titled Mushroom Revolution (in English).
L'amour Et La Vie was written together with Kanon player Avraham Salman, who also played in the recording.
The song Hora (Hora Heachzut) was arranged by Danny and Alon especially for the Nahal Bands Convention.
Left Handed Octopus was an instrumental piece, originally recorded by Alon and Danny's previous band, The Schnitzels. Here it was recorded together with The Oriental Music Orchestra, conducted by Zuzu Musa.
As can be heard in the album, Kaveret's members started using different instruments. In addition to the orchestra and the kanon, they used flute (Gidi Gov), moog (Danny), melotron (Danny and Yonny), hammond organ (Yonny), harmonica (Efraim Shamir), 12 strings guitar (Efraim) and Hawaiian guitar (Efraim).
In October Kaveret performed with Poogy Tales for the last time.

Несколько слов на английском
When Kaveret started working on their third album, they felt it had to be different in approach, and consisted of contributions from all of the members, and not only Danny Sanderson's (in previous albums, the others only co-wrote with Danny, with the exception of Yonny Rechter's Protest Song (Shir Mecha'a (Antibiotika)), which was a joke, probably improvised during recordings).
It was agreed that each and everyone of the members can offer a song, and that each song will be voted on. Later on, Danny said that democratically, it was the right thing to do, but artistically, it was wrong.
They worked in kibutz Givat Haim for six months. Some strange decisions were made during the polls, which created a tense atmosphere.
Only two 'pure' Sanderson songs were approved - Inspector Z. Greatest (Inspector Pikeach) and The Fastest Man Alive (HaIsh Hachi Mahir).
The Keyboard Has Seven Octaves (LaMikledet Yesh Sheva Octavot), a beautiful song which Yonny wrote, was rejected.
Efraim Shamir, who was into Samba music, suggested recording a Samba piece. Danny objected, because he didn't feel it would sound like Kaveret. Both Yonny and Alon Oleartchik were interested in trying something different, and finally, the song was approved. After Efraim composed the music, Alon and Danny sat down to write the sarcastic lyrics, in spite of Danny's objection. Araleh Kaminsky played percussion on this recording, which was finally titled as Samba (HaOlam Sameach).
Efraim suggested the song Childhood (Shi'ur Moledet), which he sang in his audition to the Nahal Band. The song was based on a Polish tune, and the lyrics were written by Eli Mohar. Danny thought it was a beautiful song, but that it wouldn't fit in with the rock-pop sound of the album. Despite his objection, the song was approved, and Yonny did the orchestral arangement.
The first performance took place in Givat Haim, and was a big disappointment, both to Kaveret's fans and to the members themselves.
Kaveret wasn't expected to change their style, and indeed, as Danny foresaw, the audience didn't like songs like Childhood (Shi'ur Moledet), Samba (HaOlam Sameach) and Idiot's Lament (Shir HaTembel), which was Yitzhak Klapter's first solo both as a - Composer and as a lead singer.
Even songs which sounded more like the old Kaveret failed. Tell It To Your Grandmother (Lech Saper LaSavta), which was supposed to follow Yo-Ya's style and success, didn't reach the charts. The only two successful songs were Goliath (Goliat) and Sailor Song (Shir Malachim).
The album Crowded In The Ear (Tzafuf BaOzen) was released and sold 30,000 copies by the end of the year, which was less than half the copies sold from Poogy Tales (Sipurey Poogy).
Looking back, the problem with Kaveret at that point was that after the huge success of the Poogy Tales show and album, Kaveret split into two parts: Danny, Gidi Gov and Meir Fenigstein wanted to follow the same formula as in Poogy Tales (Sipurey Poogy) and Poogy In A Pitah (Poogy BePita) and keep that unique Kaveret sound, or maybe, Sanderson sound. Alon, Efraim, Yonny and Yitzhak wanted to use their success for trying different things and develop a style of their own. Each of them was a walking album, as Danny later said.
In oppose to Poogy Tales (Sipurey Poogy), which was homogeneous in its sound and style, Crowded In The Ear (Tzafuf BaOzen), although being a superb album, sounded more like a "Best Of..." album, consisted of songs from different times and styles.

After secret meetings during the end of 1997, which led to rumors regarding an upcoming reunion, Kaveret's members, Danny Sanderson, Gidi Gov, Efraim Shamir, Alon Oleartchik, Yitzhak Klapter, Yonny Rechter and Meir Fenigstein, decided to indeed reunite, to celebrate Israel's 50th independence day and Kaveret's 25th anniversary.
The members started rehearsing, and rebuilt their personal connections. They decided to record two new songs, which will be released on singles towards the concert. They wanted to do only one concert around Israel's independence day, but finally agreed on May 28th 1998, Shavu'ot holiday, as the chosen date.
The reunion was produced by Talit Productions and Hammon Productions, under the sponsorship of Tnuva. Tickets were sold since April, in a wide range of prices: 75-150 NIS per ticket, according to Tnuva's campaign.
In addition, the album Live Summer 1984 was issued in a limited CD edition, which included only 12 songs from the original album, mainly Kaveret's biggest hits. It was decided that the original album won't be released on CD ever, probably due to it's poor sound quality. The CD edition was given away as a prize in the Tnuva campaign, and wasn't released for sale.
On May 1st Kaveret's first new single was released to the radio stations. The song Remember, Don't Remember (Zocher, Lo Zocher) was written by Danny Sanderson, Alon Oleartchik & Meir Fenigstein and composed by Danny Sanderson, Efraim Shamir, Meir Fenigstein, with a small bridge taken from Moshe Vilansky's Hora Mamtera. It had 9 verses, each about a different year in Israel's history, with comments in usual Kaveret humor. Musically, it had a free-style-funky-rap feeling. The song was received in mixed feelings - some claimed it sounded like 'Kaveret of the 90s', some claimed it was ridiculos they 'sank so low they had to do a rap song', and some said it was just a nice and funny promotion song, and nothing more.
On May 13th Kaveret's second new single was released to the radio stations. The song Looking For A Way Back (Mehapes Derech Hazara) was written by Danny Sanderson, Alon Oleartchik, Efraim Shamir & Gidi Gov, and composed by Danny Sanderson, Alon Oleartchik and Efraim Shamir. It was a sweet-bitter love song, in a simple pop style. The song was almost ignored, though Remember, Don't Remember (Zocher, Lo Zocher) really took off.
On May 25th Kaveret performed infront of 300-400 people in Hangar #11 in Yafo, to check their act. Finally, after 6 months of rehearsing, on May 28th, Kaveret reunited for the 3rd time in Ganey Yehoshu'a, Park HaYarkon. The concert began at 18:30, with Ivri Leader and HaZvuvim as warmups. Kaveret got on stage at 20:40 and performed about 42 songs, 10 of them unplugged, and did 4 sketches. Tal Bergman did additional drumming and percussion. The concert ended at 23:30.
The stage was 67x17 meters, which is enormous in Israeli standards. 300 policemen and 350 security men were at the park, together with 6 ambulances and 40 paramedics.
40,000-45,000 people attended the concert, people from all ages - old fans, young fans and youngsters who weren't born even yet at the previous reunion.
On July 1st a documentary about the reunion named Kaveret In The Park (Kaveret BaPark)was broadcasted in Channel 2. The film focused mainly on the concert itself, showing as much songs as could fit in 70 minutes. Some short bits, mostly improvised jokes from the rehearsing room, were edited in, but there were no real interviews with the members.
On September 18th (Rosh HaShana) a triple CD set named Kaveret In The Park (Kaveret BaPark) was released, including the whole concert on two CDs and a bonus CD named On The Way To The Park (BaDerech El HaPark) including chats and improvised songs from the rehearsals period. The 3rd CD also included the two singles released before the concert and the 1984 live hit Kaveret On 45 - a pop medley of the members' solo hits.
Some corrections were made to the concert album before it's release, including a deletion of a short conversation between Danny and Gidi during the unplugged medley, joking about Israel's prime minister Binyamin Nethanyahu...
The triple album was sold well, and lately Kaveret has been negotiating about performing 3 more concerts in the USA in 1999.
