The Blues Foundation presented the 31st Blues Music Awards on May 6, 2010, at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, TN

2011 - 32nd Blues Music Awards
The Blues Foundation will present the 32nd Blues Music Awards on May 5, 2011, at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, TN. Performers, industry representatives and fans from around the globe gathered to celebrate the best in Blues recording and performance from 2010. The Blues Music Awards are universally recognized as the highest honor given to Blues artists. The Presenting Sponsor for the 32nd Blues Music Awards is The Gibson Foundation. The Sustaining Sponsor is I 55 Productions. Major funding is provided by ArtsMemphis and the Tennessee Arts Commission. 2012 - 33rd Blues Music Awards
The Blues Foundation, based in Memphis, held the organization's 33rd annual Blues Music Awards on Thursday, May 10th, 2012 at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis. The annual event is a houserockin' party, typically running better than seven hours and featuring performances by dozens of deserving nominees. Like last year, the awards ceremony were broadcast live on XM Sirius satellite radio, on B.B. King's Bluesville channel, and will be broadcast on PBS stations at some point in the future..
There are few real surprises among this year's group of Blues Music Award nominees. The Blues Foundation caught up with blues fans' musical tastes and artists like Joe Bonamassa, George Thorogood, and Warren Haynes all received their first nominations. There seem to be more multiple nominations this year as well, artists like Sugar Ray & the Bluetones, Tab Benoit, and Johnny Sansone all receiving four nominations while Eugene Hideaway Bridges, Lazy Lester, David Maxwell, Ana Popovic, and Johnny Rawls all received three nominations each.

The Blues Foundation is pleased to announce the nominations for their annual Blues Music Awards, which the international organization will present at the Cook Convention Center in downtown Memphis, TN, on May 9, 2013. The Blues Music Awards are universally recognized as the highest accolade afforded musicians and songwriters in Blues music. The annual Blues Music Awards ceremony is the premier event for Blues professionals, musicians, and fans from all over the world. The focus of this celebration is to recognize superior achievements in Blues performance, songwriting, and recording while honoring a rich cultural tradition.

2014 - 35th Blues Music Award
The Blues Foundation presented the 35th Blues Music Awards Thursday night, May 8 in Memphis. The event brings together Blues performers, industry representatives and fans from all over the world to celebrate the best in Blues recordings and performances from the previous year. Three awards went to Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks and their band, while a Little Walter tribute featuring five top harmonica players received two awards, including album of the year. First time winners included Gary Clark Jr., Doug MacLeod, John Németh, Shawn Holt & the Teardrops, Trampled Under Foot and their female bassist Danielle Schnebelen.

2015 - 36th Blues Music Award Nominees Announced
The 36th Blues Music Awards took place before a sell-out crowd of 1500 in Downtown Memphis Thursday night. The evening began at a 5:30 reception with nominees Austin Walkin’ Cane and Annika Chambers performing and it ended after midnight. During the course of the evening, 24 Blues Music Award winners were announced and the show featured 20 ten-minute sets, including one by Blues Hall of Famers John Hammond and Charlie Musselwhite, as well as Keb’ Mo’ and Elvin Bishop, among others. Bishop was the evening’s big winner as he took home three Blues Music Awards on the strength of his Can’t Even Do Wrong Right release which took top song and album honors. His band was voted best band by Blues Foundation members. Hammond and Bobby Rush each won two Blues Music Awards.
During the course of the evening, Tommy Brown, Eric Clapton and Little Richard were inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. 2016 - 37th Blues Music Award Nominees
Memphis, TN (December 15, 2015) – The Blues Foundation is pleased to announce the nominations for its annual Blues Music Awards, which the international organization will present at the Cook Convention Center in downtown Memphis, Tennessee, on Thursday, May 5, 2016. The Blues Music Awards are universally recognized as the highest accolade afforded blues music performers. The annual Blues Music Awards ceremony is the premier event for blues professionals, musicians, and fans from all over the world. The focus of this celebration is to honor this rich cultural tradition by recognizing the past year’s superior achievements in blues performance, songwriting, and recording.
James Harman leads the list with five nominations, with Anthony Geraci and Sugaray Rayford close behind with four nominations each. Harman and Geraci will go head to head in three categories: Best Song, Best Album, and Best Traditional Blues Album. Harman’s special gift at musical storytelling combined with the soulful sound on his newest release Bonetime propelled him to a nomination as Best Traditional Male Blues Artist, and his strong musicianship opened the door for a nomination as Best Instrumentalist-Harmonica, while Geraci’s piano finesse led to a nomination for the Pinetop Perkins Piano Player. Rayford, with a more modern sound, received nods for Contemporary Blues Album and Contemporary Blues Male Artist as well as Best Song and B.B. King Entertainer. 2016 Grammy nominated Cedric Burnside and Shemekia Copeland along with Doug MacLeod, The Cash Box Kings, Victor Wainwright and Wee Willie Walker each received three nominations.

2017 - 38th Blues Music Award Nominees & Winners
Awards ceremony to be held May 11, 2017 in Memphis.
The Blues Foundation is pleased to announce the nominations for its annual Blues Music Awards, which the international organization will present on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Cook Convention Center in downtown Memphis, Tennessee. Universally recognized as the highest accolade afforded blues musicians, The Blues Music Awards upholds its rich cultural tradition by honoring the past year’s superior achievements in blues performance, songwriting, and recording. This annual ceremony represents the premier event for blues professionals, musicians, and fans around the globe.
Sugar Ray Norcia, individually, and collectively with his band, The Bluetones, received the most nominations with seven, including B.B. King Entertainer Award, Best Song, Best Album and Best Band. The total reaches ten with the inclusion of his Bluetones bandmates Monster Mike Welch (Instrumentalist-Guitar), Michael “Mudcat” Ward (Instrumentalist-Bass) and Anthony Geraci (Pinetop Perkins Piano Player). Chicago-based guitarist Toronzo Cannon garnered four nominations and he faces off against Norcia in both the Best Song and Best Album categories. Best Album probably ranks as the most competitive category, with Norcia and Cannon battling Bobby Rush, Kenny Neal, William Bell and the Nick Moss Band, who all have three nominations.
Several nominees will be defending their titles won at last year’s Blues Music Awards. Instrumentalist-Harmonica winner Kim Wilson is one of this year’s nominees, and Cedric Burnside might again claim the Instrumentalist-Drums crown. Shemekia Copeland and Bettye LaVette also return to the categories they won last year (Contemporary Blues Female Artist and Soul Blues Female Artist, respectively), while 2016’s Acoustic Artist winner, Doug MacLeod, is one of this year’s contenders too.
The Awards also honor the next generation of blues performers with the Best Emerging Artist Album category. In fact, two Emerging Artist nominees also are contenders for a second award. Detroit native Thornetta Davis’s “I Gotta Sang the Blues” is up for Best Song, while Terrie Odabi is competing against the likes of Bettye LaVette and Mavis Staples to be named Soul Blues Female Artist.
A ballot will soon be sent to all Blues Foundation members, as they have the privilege of deciding which nominees will actually take home a Blues Music Award in May. Anyone interested in casting a vote to decide this year’s winners may receive a ballot by joining or renewing their membership with The Blues Foundation at any time up to February 28, 2017.
The Blues Music Awards ceremony annually proves to be one of the year’s best shows. Not only does almost every nominee attend, but they also perform, creating a lineup featuring the best of the best in blues all in one evening.

2018 - 39th Blues Music Award Nominees & Winners
The 39th Annual Blues Music Awards will be held on May 10 at The Memphis Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tennessee. The Blues Foundation has revealed this year’s nominees which includes North Mississippi Allstars, Mavis Staples and Taj Mahal.
The North Mississippi Allstars were nominated for Band of the Year, Rock Blues Album for Prayer for Peace and Song of the Year for the album’s title track. Staples earned nominations for Soul Blues Female Artist while Mahal is up for Acoustic Artist, B.B. King Entertainer of the Year, Song Of The Year for “Don’t Leave Me Here” and Contemporary Album Of The Year and Album Of The Year for his co-release with Keb’ Mo’, TajMo. Keb’ Mo’ earned an additional nomination for Contemporary Blues Male Artist.
Harmonica player Rick Estrin and group The Nightcats received the most nominations, including Band of the Year, Album Of The Year and Traditional Blues Album, Traditional Blues Male Artist, Best Instrumentalist: Harmonica, B.B. King Entertainer of the Year, Song of the Year and The Nightcats guitarist Christoffer “Kid” Andersen earned a nomination for Instrumentalist-Guitar.

2020 - 41th Blues Music Award Nominees & Winners
THE 41st BLUES MUSIC AWARDS SHOW WILL GO ON AS THE FIRST
VIRTUAL BMA CEREMONY ON MAY 3, 2020
Nominee performances, award presentations, and other surprises will bring the entire blues community together from around the world
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — This year’s Blues Music Awards ceremony will be unlike any of its predecessors. In light of the current coronavirus pandemic, the annual BMA gala will take place online in living rooms around the world instead of onstage in Memphis. The festivities will commence on May 3 at 5 p.m. EDT, 4 p.m. CDT, and 2 p.m. PDT, and will be broadcast on The Blues Foundation’s Facebook page and co-broadcasted on its YouTube channel . Barbara Newman, Blues Foundation President and CEO states “our goal this year is to create a global community from all corners of the world, coming together to celebrate the music and heal our souls.”
Multi-BMA winning and GRAMMY® Award nominated artist Shemekia Copeland will host the event from her living room and BMA nominees will contribute exclusive performances recorded in their homes. Like prior BMA ceremonies, this online event will also feature announcements of all nominees and award winners, along with some special guest appearances.
Not only will the BMA show emanate from artists’ living rooms around the world, but it can be enjoyed by fans from their own homes while socially distancing— making this event one big communal party. Preserving, celebrating and promoting the blues are core missions of The Blues Foundation, which marks its milestone 40th anniversary this year. This unique online experience will allow Facebook viewers to share their thoughts and comments with fellow blues enthusiasts watching worldwide as they celebrate blues’ grand night together.
