“Jazz in colors, citizens”, are the words with which Stiva Vučković last night opened in Đardin in Split the second Festival of Creative and Improvised Music, as part of the music event “Here’s Hands”.
Split open jazz fair will take place through two evenings, in the first instrumental, Borna Šercar's Jazziana Croatica from Zagreb, and Zvjezdan Ružić Trio from Rijeka.
Šercar's foursome performed in the composition: Elvis Penava on guitar, Hrvoje Galler on electric keyboards, Vojkan Jocić on soprano and tenor saxophone, and Borna Šercar on drums.
One of the shifts from traditional jazz is the ubiquitous free music with improvisations as a trademark, improvisations that sometimes represent both angels and demons for their performers. Because to find the right dose of honesty enriched with an interesting and obligatory good gig sometimes is not an easy task.

Last night, Borna Šarcer and a team of excellent musicians avoided this trap, through author material lasting over an hour, a material that contains ethno roots in recognizable traces (a combination of Kries and jazz ??) Skilfully incorporated into the personal stories of the musician told through excellent “style exercises”. Since jazz, as well as in war and love, everything is allowed, genetic mutations of jazz in relation to the tradition that the local X Men authoritatively played us had a sincere turnout and in an obviously satisfied audience.
All three solo instruments had their great moments in inspiration, both in the given parameters. Topped Jocić and his saxophones, the longest applause was given to his mix of sprouts that he only knows how to produce (and a great master play) and crystal purity in moments of relaxation and unadulterated enthusiasm. El.klavir on which Hrvoje Galler also imitated the sounds of bass (which may be lacking in filling as densely musical image as possible) was discreetly built and complemented with the guitar of the last pieces of the puzzle that in moments used to accept the features of the controlled noise (not the noise that we understand each other).

And Borna Shercar?
He “vehied” his shares unobtrusively, energetically for the benefit of the entire music painting, which at times seemed to grow into a breakdown of the system in the first corner – but this is the very charm of this kind of music.
From the materials I remembered these titles: “Loda” inspired by Nazor’s short story, “Velebit Uprising”, “Sunkking ships”, and “Rab’s cake” with an excellent roll on saxophone, otherwise all from the album “Rise after Fall” from 2018.
