"I will talk about my experiences, about what I learned from the greats with whom I had the opportunity to spend some time - Don Menza, Bob Mintzer and others. About my vision of sound, rhythm and melody. About the experience of playing different styles of music. About collaborating with musicians and playing from trios to big bands. That's it in a nutshell."
With his ease and relaxed playing and his striking tone, saxophonist Mario Bočić stands out in an already strong line-up of tenors on our music, primarily jazz, scene. Educated in Graz, Bočić is a musician who, within his primary idiom, noticeably covers the entire spectrum of contexts, from the relative conventionality of the HRT jazz orchestra to the liberated improvisational play of the Reel Problems quartet , in which he plays with drummer Kruno Levačić , double bassist Ivar Roban Križić and his HRT colleague, pianist and trombonist Luka Žužić . All of this justifiably makes him one of the most sought-after and beloved local musicians, who has contributed to numerous performances and albums by his colleagues, and has recently also devoted himself to original work. In the new episode, we bring you his improvised performance accompanied by a conversation about the sound possibilities of the saxophone, his approach to improvisation and practice, and playing in different musical formats.
