@Armagnac
Hello. No, any interest went lost after I read this:
"Please Note: This release was edited in DXD PCM from a DSD256 Master
then the DXD edited master was used to generate the final DSD files using
Merging Technologies Album Publishing.
DXD (352.8KHz 24/32 bit PCM) is one of the best and least destructive formats for post-processing DSD originated digital recordings."
Native DSD256 for my ears has one main advantage. It sounds "live".
This means, If you listen to a native DSD256 recording through a DAC which supports native DSD256 playback, you have a feeling of being sitting in a studio or a recording environment where the session has been done.
If you are listening to a native DSD256 digitization, like one of my, the feeling is slightly different - it's as if you have this particular turntable setup playing through your own amp. Funny thing, you get this feeling even better when you hear vinyl crackles coming up from time to time.
Don't beleave people who say you need a very expensive gear setup to hear this difference. No, you only need a DAC or a DAC/player which supports native DSD256. The rest can be a normal setup, still you will hear this difference. It's even better, if you use your own chain which you know through and through.
I ran a couple of tests with format conversions and can tell you my opinion. Maybe it is the same you have too.
As long as you keep staying in the PDM domain (DSD) and don't change your format to PCM, this "live" feeling more or less remains. As soon as you converts PDM to PCM, no matter how high the resolution of the result is, this... well, I call it "DSD256 magic" gets lost. You still have a damn good sounding file, but the "live" feeling is gone. Re-converting it back to DSD does not improve the result.
So, If we go back to Muddy Waters, I think I would buy it, If they just took the master tape and digitized it to DSD256. But I won't as soon as I know that they did a PDM/PCM swap. I'm sure this will be a hell of a good sounding file, but I also know, this will be not the same magic as they could have directly without conversions.
Sorry for my expanded answer.
