Heat is Spring Vibes 7th album and while their previous releases have had influences from soundtracks and had a ‘cinematic feel’ this is an actual soundtrack. “We have always aspired to write a soundtrack.” says songwriter and producer Goran Conradsen. “We put together a video collage of American public domain movies from the 60's and 70’s concerning environmental issues and energy supply and we named it Heat. The album consists of one pop song and seven instrumentals. “I spend a lot of time online researching for movies, audio, images and art in the category known as “public domain” that I can recycle as a sample, an album cover or a music video promo. Spring Vibes have always had an element of collage, whether that be sounds or video or both at the same time. The great paradox about the warnings of these old grainy, public domain movies about energy supply and environmental issues is that they are still relevant today, more than ever, we still have no solution to them today.” We cut and pasted some of the original commentary from the movies on ‘Air Pollution’ and ‘Hurricane’ to give it a documentary feel. Lead single of the album ‘A Summer of Jazz & Poetry’ mixes 60’s soul grooves with psychedelic pop elements. featuring guest vocals from colombian singer Bella. Tracks like ‘Man belongs to earth’, ‘Automatic Weather Station’ and ‘When the Circuit breaks’ has laid back jazzy drums grooves with psych guitars and atmospheric synths creating a chilled out shimmering sound of lazy summer days. ‘Arctic ice melting’ and ‘Hurricane’ on the other hand breaks up the summer feeling of the soundtrack. ‘Hurricane’ is the most experimental track on theI album with samples of hurricane radar signals mixed with improvisations on the korg volca modular synth.
