If you've been listening to the recent sounds of Gil Evans, Cedar Walton, Elvin Jones, Chico Hamilton, or Grady Tate, they all have one thing in common: the facile guitar of Ryo Kawasaki.
Ryo came to the United States in 1973 after several years as a top studio and jazz musician in his native Japan. Since that time, he has gained both the rare and intense respect of his fellow artists, and a growing underground following that prompted this first album for RCA.
His immense talents include not only an amazing virtuosity on guitar, and a unique style of writing, but working knowledge of electronics (he invented one of the synthesizers used here.
We're fortunate to have with Ryo several musical wizards such as Tom Coster, keyboardist for SANTANA, Jimmie Young (drums), Stu Woods (bass) and Hugh McCracken (rhythm guitar), all on hit soul and jazz albums.
Ryo Kawasaki's music is part of the new wave of electric sounds that combine the influence of soul, synthesizers and the best in jazz feeling.
