On Band
Los Speakers (the Speakers) from Bogotá, Colombia, were a beat and garage rock band active the 1960s. Their particular style was characterized by the influence of early Beatles and the Byrds, as well as other popular music of the era. Later, they would experiment with other musical forms, such as psychedelic before their separation in late 1968. While much of their recorded material consisted of covers of popular songs by acts such as the Beatles, not to mention other Latin American rock bands, such as Los Brincos, they began to write their own material as their sound evolved. Some of their original material would be characterized by ghostly downcast melodies and arrangements. Their albums are sought after among collectors, particularly their final LP, which is their most experimental. The band began with the merging of two earlier groups, Dynamic (1961–1964), whose membership included Fernando Latorre, Alfredo Besoza and Humberto Monroy, and Electronic, whose roster included Luis and Edgar Duenas, children of the composer Luis Dueñas Knob. The earliest lineup of the Speakers was Rodrigo Garcia, from Spain (guitar) Colombian Humberto Monroy (bass), Fernando Latorre (drums) and guitarists Oswaldo Hernandez and Luis Dueñas. With this lineup, they supported Enrique Guzman, who was visiting Bogota, in 1964. The Speakers became popular with the public during the beat group movement in Colombia.
On Album
"Los Speakers En El Maravilloso Mundo De Ingeson" is the fifth and last LP by the Bogotá band Los Speakers. It's the first record work made with a multichannel system in Colombia, which allowed sound mixes and experimentation hitherto unheard of in the country's musical history. After being rejected by Discos Bambuco and other record companies, it was recorded in 1968, for four months, in the Ingeson studios, belonging to Manuel Drezner and then studio recordings at carrera 7 with calle 22.4 5 Due to the possibilities offered by the "complete endowment of modern state-of-the-art recording equipment" at Ingeson, the album has a characteristic psychedelic sound, due to its lyrics, its arrangements, the instruments used and the mixes and effects applied to the recording. , for which it is considered a jewel of Latin American music. With this album, influenced by counterculture movements, psychedelic explorations and hippism, Los Speakers explored new themes, sounds and ways of composing, which transformed their distinctive sound associated with the Anglo-Saxon rock aesthetic of the 1960s, and dubbed a-go-gó by the Colombian media of the time. After the departure of their guitarist to Europe, Óscar Lasprilla, Roberto Fiorilli, Rodrigo García and Humberto Monroy begin to plan an LP different from everything they had done up to now, both in terms of instrumentation, composition, production and recording, as in its graphic design and distribution. In Fiorilli's words, they were looking for "a production in which everyone could express their inner self, be it in music, in graphic ideas, etc." through original compositions". Having a clear concept of the project, they proposed their ideas to Bambuco, Phillips, CBS, Sonolux; but the answer was always negative since they considered it too expensive to produce and not very commercial. Faced with this situation, the final decision was to make a "self-production", that is, to do it with its own resources through the creation of the independent company Kriss. They got the recording studio by talking to Manuel Drezner, who lent it in exchange for receiving credit on the album's title; as Fiorilli spent almost 8-10 hours a day playing there, he told him << How about "The Speakers in Ingeson's Wonderful World"?>>, to which Drezner replied: "You can start tomorrow!". At Ingeson, accompanied by David Ocampo, The Speakers were able to use "a Langevin console, Ampex multi-channel recorders, and Neumann and AKG microphones" to experiment with ease. Probably influenced by the experiments carried out by groups like The Beach Boys, on their album Pet Sounds (1966), or the Beatles on Revolver (1966) and Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967), on the album it is possible to hear effects such as the "transit of sound from speaker to speaker in stereo listening", loops and re-recordings at different speeds and the creation of blocks of sound that act as intervals between the songs. His lyrics also present a reading of social problems and cultural, such as the Cold War, the threat of nuclear war. The result was an album that included his own compositions, a 16-page booklet, photographs, drawings, an imitation LSD pill and rose perfume; elements, all, prepared by the same group. Among the authors of the texts that accompanied the booklet are the same musicians, Manuel Drezner, and the writer Darío Ruiz. The rights were sold to Discos Universal de México (Polydor) for the exploitation of the work and to be able to recover some of the expenses. Eventually, a thousand copies were distributed for sale. It was reissued and remastered in 2007 by the independent label "Salgaelsol", by Mario Galeano Toro, from the original vinyl, since the original tapes recorded at Ingeson were destroyed. The 2007 CD contains the booklet and the imitation of LSD tablets, which are actually chewing gum tablets. These tablets were difficult to obtain because the company that produced them had stopped issuing them.
