Об исполнителе
Джозеф Спенс (Joseph Spence, 1910-1984) - багамский певец и гитарист, известный своей замысловатой техникой игры. В его репертуар входили народные песни Багамских островов, багамские рифмованные спиричуэлы - христианские гимны, церковные песнопения, блюзы и калипсо. Спенс использовал в основном акустические гитары с металлическими струнами, обычно в настройке drop D (от самой низкой струны до самой высокой - DADGBE). При исполнении песен почти всегда мелодии он гармонизировал, не играя отдельными нотами, и добавлял басовую линию, добиваясь, таким образом, трёхчастной гармонии.
Об альбоме
В альбоме представлены ранее не издававшиеся записи Джозефа Спенса, сделанные в 1965 году в Нассау (Багамские острова) и в Нью-Йорке. В некоторых записях приняли участие родственники Спенса - вокалисты Эдит, Рэймонд и Женева Пиндер.
