Yeah I've scripted pdftk-java to merge and index pdf ToCs and djvused for DjVu pagination and bookmarks on a few occasions. Even used ScanTailor to orient and crop scanned material... It's often time consuming but still worthwhile when dealing with long sheet music books that take a while to load on slow tablets...
Ironically I barely got a chance to use much of it since I end up spending most of my practice on free youtube technique drills and lessons
