The Magickal Folk Of The Faraway Tree began in 2002 (?) with David Colohan and Shane Cullinane and a copy of Peter Kennedy'ssongbook Folksongs Of Britain And Ireland. They began setting lyrics to their own music very much in a trad style but bearing no relation to the sheet music in the collection. It wasn't long until they started getting some friends involved. Mostly fellow members of United Bible Studies and Murmansk
MFOTFT recordings tended to be raw and live-sounding, harking back to an era before folk music began to be watered down for marketability."The Mildew Leaf" CDR and "The Cat's Melodeon" 3" CDR charmed people all over the world and went out of print quickly.
The MFOTFT didn't return until 2010 with a double CD "The Soup & The Shilling" People had been waiting for reissues of the first CDRS so what was to have been the new album became a complete recordings release. Along with a track from the Gold Leaf Branches compilation the long out of print CDRs make up Disc One. Disc Two is comprised of previously unreleased recordings, further exploring the Peter Kennedy songbook and beyond.
