Об альбоме (сборнике)
Recorded live at The Pyramid, Memphis, Tennessee on October 8, 1994; and at Javelina Studios, Nashville, Tennessee.
In the fall of 1994, an assortment of artists from all musical styles converged at the Pyramid Theater in Memphis to pay tribute to The King. They recorded this 15-song tribute compilation, the first major release sanctioned by the Presley estate. Backed by an all-star band which includes the Don Was Band, NRBQ and some of Elvis' old players, IT'S NOW OR NEVER rocks, stomps, and swoons through a string of Presley hits.
Dwight Yoakam makes the rockabilly "Mystery Train" his own, and in turn, makes it one of the album's highlights. Outstanding performances also include the Mavericks' moody "Love Me," Melissa Etheridge's scorching "Burning Love," Marty Stuart performing "Don't Be Cruel" with Presley's backup singers the Jordanaires, and the interesting pairing of INXS' Michael Hutchence and NRBQ on the energetic "Baby Let's Play House." And who would envy the artist chosen to perform "Hound Dog?" Canadian rocker Bryan Adams pulls it off. Alternative U.K. popsters Wet Wet Wet bring the house to their feet with "It's Now Or Never" complete with an operatic crescendo. Tony Bennett ends the set with a sing-along "Love Me Tender."
Chris Isaak's sultry "Blue Moon" is the understated show-stopper while the rousing, eye-opening combination of pop crooner Michael Bolton and rockabilly king Carl Perkins' sizzling version of "Jailhouse Rock" is the blow-out. This diverse album celebrates the expansive influence Elvis had on many musical genres and several generations of musicians.
