Worl-A-Girl is a hip-hop and R&B influenced group that was formed in 1991. The group comprised of Sabrina Cohen, Linda Scott and Angela Wilks (Sensi). Each of the girls were pursuing solo careers when they met in New York and decided to form a group dedicated to producing feel-good dancehall music. They gained their name that was derived from the Jamaican patois for "world-of-girls" from reggae producer Donovan Germaine Jr who on first seeing them record, exclaimed "worl a girl deh bout".
They were the first female dancehall group on the scene and they released their first album in 1994. Since forming, they have released a string of hit singles including a track on the popular "Cool Runnings" movie. The group is especially well-known for there high energy at live performances and their colourful attire and in-sync choreography. Their music is characterized by the pulsating mix of rap, pop, reggae and dancehall.
The trio has in total released 3 albums "Worl-A-Girl", "Time", and "Party". They have also toured West Africa, the US and the Caribbean. Their talents have not gone unrecognized as they have also been the reciepients of 5 New York Tamika Reggae Awards for outstanding female artist, and the Ingredients Appreciation Award in Jamaica.
