Goose house (formerly known as playyouhouse) is a project by a group of singers, songwriters and musicians from Japan. They have been active since 2010 and are best known for their cover performances of Japanese songs, which are posted on YouTube channel. They also do performances on live streams once every month on Ustream and have gained a large international following; at the time of this article’s writing, Goose house has more than 166 million video views for their 390 videos on YouTube and more than 390,000 subscribers to their channel.
Goose house also recorded a cover of YUI’s ”Life” for YUI’s tribute album, “She Loves You”. The group also creates their own songs; having released 5 singles and 2 albums of original works. Their YouTube and livestream performances, however, still form the larger part of their activity.
Goose house has experienced some lineup changes since it was formed; currently there are eight active members in Goose House: Migiwa Takezawa, Manami, d-iZe, Kei Takebuchi, Shuhei Watanabe, Johnny Saito, Sayaka and Shuhei Kudo. Every member provides vocals to the group’s performances, and most of the members play at least one instrument.
Goose house boasts of skilled musicians and beautiful voices. Their covers, done live on camera, are well-rehearsed and very polished. What further sets Goose house apart from the many other cover acts on YouTube is the creativity of their rearrangements of the songs that they cover. Harmonies consisting of male, female, or mixed vocals feature heavily in their performances.
The group uses mainly acoustic guitars and keyboards for accompaniment, but they have also incorporated less common instruments like the melodica, various percussion instruments including the xylophone, and even some beatboxing.
While there are eight members in the group, not all of them perform in every video — the combination of performers changes from song to song. This flexibility allows the groups to showcase a variety of vocal harmonies and also works well to keep things fresh; every video has something different to offer. When all members do perform together, though, you can expect something very special.
