Jakob Davidsens Kammerat Orkester has since their debut in 2010 made a big impression on the audience and critics with their deeply personal conception of music in the borderland between improvisation and composition. No other band takes the same road as Jakob Davidsens Kammerat Orkester.
The musicians of the band have been carefully selected from the Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish jazz and contemporary classical scenes. They all contribute with their personal coloring of the music coming from their respective back- grounds in a yet homogeneous musical context.
Jakob Davidsens Kammerat Orkester has played concerts at art-museums, festivals and venues in Denmark and France, and they have earlier released two CDs, which have received outstanding reviews in Denmark and abroad.
In 2012 the first CD gave them a Danish Music Award as best jazz-crossover CD of the year, and it was chosen as one of 2012s ten best jazz-CDs world-wide by the leading Danish newspaper, ‘Politiken’.
The second CD, ‘Se kunsten med nye ører’ (‘Lend art your ear’), where Jakob Davidsens Kammerat Orkester interprets pieces of art from The National Gallery of Denmark and The J. F. Willumsen Museum, received a prize from The Danish Arts Foundation as one of the eight most remarkable Danish album- releases of 2013.
On the new release, ‘og andre dyr’ (= ‘and other animals’) Jakob Davidsens Kammerat Orkester follows the trail of the first two albums. However, the passing years intimate work, and the deeper understanding of the universe of Jakob Davidsens music, has let to a more clear and simple music.
The music is spacious and yet homogeneous, with lots of room for poetic sensations, strong contrasts, and understated humor.
