Об исполнителе (группе)
Rumberos de Cuba, founded by its director, Rodolfo Chacon Tartabull, is a group which has been described as "some of the best and most engaging musicians and dancers from the barrios of Havana", many of them past members of the Conjunto Folklorico Nacional de Cuba. The group was created to preserve and present the different facets of the music of black origin - bequeathed to Cuba by the Congos, Mandingas, Karabalis, Yorubas, and others - as well as the group of inter-related genres, styles, etc known in Cuba as rumba.
The members of Rumberos de Cuba and other notable exponents of these types of music have united to offer their rhythms and songs as a lasting tribute to those who preceded them. They have enriched this music through their daily tasks and, in many cases, by means of their own contributions to the Cuban folkloric musical heritage. Today Rumberos de Cuba continue to invent forms of folkloric music, which add live elements from contemporary music and dance.
Rumberos de Cuba are therefore making a significant contribution towards keeping the spark of the rumba alive, which has at times been in danger of extinction. It is also a memorial to Pancho Quinto, Eulogio ("el amaliano", "from the barrio Jesus Maria"), Evaristo Aparicio ("el picaro", "the mischievous"), Checa, Tio Tom, Calixto Callaba, Malanga, Virulilla, Saldiguera and many other well-respected and popular founders of Cuban rumba.
In the 5 years since the group was formed, it has performed in most of the best venues of popular dance music in Havana, as well as in venues specializing in the promotion of Afro-Cuban music. It has also performed in concert halls and theatres throughout Cuba, as well as appearing at galas of the highest musical level.
In 2003 Rumberos de Cuba recorded their first CD, "Donde Andabas Tu, Acereko", which won the national CUBADISCO discography prize in 2005 in the category of folkloric music. In 2007, their second CD "Habana De Mi Corazon" was released and it was also nominated for the same prize. Both CDs were recorded by the Cuban record company EGREM.
In the summer of the 2002, Rumberos de Cuba spent one month in the French city of Nantes, where they worked on a community project. The project focussed on the fusion of hip-hop and other styles of music with bata drumming and rumba; the result was well received by both the public and the press. In September of the same year, the group returned to France with Tata Guines, Changuito, and 3 other musicians, where they worked on another well-received fusion project at the Festival Toros y Salsa.
In February 2007, Rumberos de Cuba traveled to Panama where they performed at carnivals together with other outstanding groups (both Cuban and foreign). They were once again very well received by the public who attended their concerts and performances.
Rumberos de Cuba currently perform every Wednesday at Havana's Karabali Club where they have a strong following. They also regularly perform at Havana's Delirio Habanero and they continue at a variety of venues and events throughout Cuba.
