Author, singer and dancer Chavalonga (born Mario Dreke Alfonso, 25.04.1925 – 02.06.2007) recorded his only solo album when he was almost 80, but he still had a lot of drive. He was brought to studios by his younger colleague rumbero Fariñas who also sang backing vocals, and his Envidia-based Cuban crew delivered coros and drumming. The music is quite archaic and less syncopated than modern Cuban rumba tends to be, bearing a resemblance to conga de comparsa rhythms. All songs had been written by Chavalonga during his lifelong carrier; certain songs have already become a part of Havana City folklore.
