Here's a great discovery: a rumba record made in 1968 by a group of musicians from Los Muñequitos de Matanzas. The liner notes get exotic on us, telling us that the performers are all abakuá not that it makes a whole lot of difference. The tunes are rumbas, with not a lot of religious content. There's fantastic singing and playing, and it all adds up to being one of the best rumba records I've heard in a long time, and it comes with story of rediscovery (though the liner notes doesn't really explain how the music vanished, and it was found again.) It's also stunningly recorded.
