Об исполнителе (группе)
The Demensions are an American doo wop group from Bronx, New York. They attended Christopher Columbus High School. Over the years, there have been a number of lineup changes. The group that sung on most of their earlier recordings includes Lenny Dell, Phil Del Giudice, Howie Margolin, and Marisa Martelli.
At the height of their popularity in the early 1960s, The Demensions played often in Palisades Park, New Jersey, as well as on American Bandstand and The Clay Cole Show. They first scored radio airplay as a result of Cousin Brucie, a disc jockey at New York radio station WINS, who began spinning their version of "Over the Rainbow".The song became a hit, peaking at #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1960. Their only other chart hit was 1962's "My Foolish Heart", which peaked at #95 early in 1963.

"Back in the early to mid 1960s, if you sang with your friends in the style we now call doo wop, there were certain songs that everyone knew. You'd know the words and the backing harmony. Over The Rainbow was one such song, and I've heard it sung many ways - slow, fast, in-between, oohs, aahs, and all the other doo-wops. The version on this CD is nice, although probably not one of the more definitive ones. That's what I remembered from way back when, and that's how it still sounds.
It's pretty much the same throughout the CD. Pleasant, reasonably skillful sounds. A lot of production. Think would-be Skyliners and you've got it. My Foolish Heart still sounds good, just like it did back then.
OTR and Foolish Heart are the two best songs, and one might do well to just seek out those two on a compilation, rather than pop for the whole CD, which can be pricy.
You can get Skyliners, Duprees, and even Dion & The Belmonts comps that are stylistically similar to this, and if you do, it will be apparent why those groups' success exceeded that of the Demensions, pleasant as they are."
"This disc came from Czechoslovakia which should immediately tell you the audio quality of some tracks. The Mohawk masters are good quality although the production is uneven, while most of the Coral masters are quite distorted and overdriven. Still, it's a great historical record of a good group. Too bad their label didn't really know what to do with them."
