Formed in 2006 by left-handed lead guitarist Eric Hersemann (Diabolic, Hate Eternal), GIGAN is a heavy, psychadelic band with no musical boundaries. High-velocity and musical dexterity are focal points, but never does the extremity overwhelm. Songs like "Occult Rites of the Uumpluuy", "Still Image Symphony", and "Hiding Behind the House of Mirrors" manage to propel the listener through solid songs structures and trance-inducing, melodic soundscapes, while refusing to ever provide a sonic sense of security before the auditory bedlam begins again. The GIGAN line-up is completed by Randy Piro on vocals/guitars (Hate Eternal) and Danny Ryan (drums/percussion).

To Infinity and.............WHAT THE FUCK?!
It's obvious that we, as metalheads, would make a connection between the alumni of this band and that of Hate Eternal, with Piro and Hersemann at the helm of this project; however, that's the ONLY connection that should be relevant when speaking about this band and their potential, as showcased by this epic debut.
A quick preface; I've had this album for about a year now, and it has YET to get old on me. Words can't really describe the chaotic, neurotic, exotic, psychotic, and astronomic feel this album has shown me, but I'll do my best to state what I can.
Where shall we start? The production is pretty friggin' well-done, considering my expectations for production were somewhat low from the start for a band like this(even a band like this with the once again amazing line-up). All the instruments are well mixed, allowing the listener a choice of focus right when the first track hits and up to the crescendo of the last track.
As a whole, the music dabbles in pseudo alien/techno/drone noises to add an otherworldly aura to the already hectic sense of technique that each member displays(side note; Piro's guitar work I found to be somewhat impressive). Technically, the album gives off a sort of "proto-'Obscura'" vibe, minus the structure or composition that may pigeonhole some bands into limiting what they could offer to the technical-and otherwise-death metal community. The drumming technique is what caught my eye quite a bit; it brings up a portrait of quasi-alien death metal percussion with a decent dash of jazzy technicality in some sections, doing well to mesh together with the distortion of the guitars and effects.
The one negative thing I have for this album is the sheer amount of droning this may induce in some of its listeners. The spacey effects, though well-placed and well-executed, can begin to take their toll on the mind of the typical listener(especially the last track, which is basically a couple minutes of one of the track's openings and the other 19 being spent in alien hell with the amount of drone effects going on). If the droning effects were dialed down just a smidgeon, it would be worthy of perfection in my eyes.
Overall, this album nary disappoints. It'll withstand multiple listens and will more than likely stay in your collection for quite a while. That, and it'll serve as a good waypoint for the future exploits of this chaos known as Gigan. *coughnewalbumcough*
Verdict; BUY THIS SHIT.
