Доп. информация: A lot of titles, especially on disc 2, have been seen and heard on previous reggae compilations. Nothing wrong with that, as the choice of the better-known or familiar numbers eg 007,Miss Jamaica,Housewife's Choice,Guns of Navarone, is a reasonable choice of good hot or cool ska and from both the formative years of 1962-3 and the established-sound era of 64-66.
The secret here is the mix between these and a whole stack of stuff, especially from 1960/61/62 that ain't so well known, or is really recherche. One after another, ones you know or ones you never heard of before, sit neatly together as both discs flow quite liquidly into a great listening experience.
The tracks are in chronological order, at least so disc 1 starts in 1960, goes on to 1961, then '62 & '63, disc 2 running '64 thru '65 onto 1966. Purists will tell you that a couple(True Confessions & Dance Crasher) belong on the Rocksteady double set, as they are that style. Not true-the artists concerned are better known for that latter style, but these tracks don't jut out as in the wrong place.
A couple of real obscurities on disc 1 are mastered from 78 rpm acetates, I think, but the sound quality is not that bad & is even atmospheric. Otherwise, sound is top quality & a testament to the original engineers & producers & the remasterers alike.
Another unmissable-simply get this, stick it on(both discs one after the other is best)and wonder how such a tiny island could produce so much musical magic time and again-to quote Lord Lebby from 1960 on the Starlite Label(now that IS a rarity!)-SWEET JAMAICA!
