Not sure if you follow the WDS forums, but one of the big things they advertised in 4.05 was that fatigue was no longer directly connected to unit size.
Or in other words, companies would no longer take 3x the fatigue as battalions just by being companies.
"Great, deploying into companies will finally become a viable tactic without them getting run over in a few turns", I thought.
Then I read the way they planned to do it..... 
Instead of being based on unit size, fatigue gain will be based on original OOB strength (not current strength, which would've made at least a little sense).
And since battalions have OOB strength roughly 3x that of companies, their 'fix' will do exactly nothing. Unless you happen to have monstrously large companies.
Then again, it took various IP owners ten years to fix the Alt Assault rule so it didn't apply to fortifications.
So, you know....Progress is happening albeit at a glutinous pace.

Nope, I don't follow WDS forums because I have just one stupid question and I'd rather not ask it. Let's say I want all sound off. In order to accomplish that I have to repeat the same action 3 times in a row. How come it's 20+ years of developement and there's no "mute/unmute all sound" option in the drop-down menu?
Another long autumn evening, another Philippines '44 scenario.
It's Leyte - XXIV Corps Invasion & Expansion this time and I actually like it. Slow grinding pace, breaking Japanese defense link by link. Japanese side is in static defense so there's not many ways for AI to screw it up... or so I thought until finding two(!) abandoned bunkers!
UPD: One day and a few turns later...
I was surprised to see 2 empty bunkers, right? Turns out there's a whole line, six in total, with only one defended. So...it's turn 40 of 66 and I already have "Minor victory" result. You fellas wanna know that happened? Well, AI decided to counter-attack with forces absolutely unfit for such an action. As a result my side decimated those poor bastards and now they are scattered across the map in "Broken" status and my battalions simply walked through the empty defensive line and occupied victory objectives without a fight.
Look at this perfect line of bunkers protected by fields in the north and jungle covered slopes of Gumdalitan mountain in the south.
Something went awfully wrong for Japanese side!
Could it have been different? Let's take a look at what is going on near the LZ. Again, it's turn 40 and the two bunkers up on Catmon Hill and Labir Hill are still fending off my assault attempts. It took me at least 35 turns to smash through the "soft" line of trenches and only now I have those hills cut off from the enemy supply lines.

They already updated El-Alamein, Bulge, Market-Garden, Normandy and Scheldt to 4.05.1

Yes, I can confirm that the AI has been improved in the new versions, but they are just small behaviour patches. The core of the problem is that originally the AI for HPS/JTL/WDS is mostly scripted. During all that years, the different editors have avoided to go deep into that, because it may need to probably remade the whole AI system. It has been just patched with small details, like 'if X happens, then dig in' , 'if Y happens, then advance to X location'.... In my humble opinion this is not the solution but the candy for the users and the justification that they are 'working in AI'.
To arrange a decent scripted AI you need a ton of work, and even with that, the script 'behaviour' can be catch in short time by a human player, who will undertand and anticipate. I have read that WDS team has recently hired the guy who developed the original AI to work with... but I expect the results can be seen in a few years.

Napoleonica, Campaign Marengo.
Okay, guys, would any of you care to play "The Bridge at Lodi" /SOLO/ scenario and share your wisdom after? I've played it a while back and lost despite occupying all victory objectives.
It's another bottleneck situation for the attacking (French) side and boy do I like those! First time I placed 2 of my infantry battalions on western bank of the river and started pounding the opposing side with arty and musket fire. It took me 2 or 3 turns to "soften" the infantry and arty blocking the way and after that I formed columns and successfully stormed the bridge. Despite that I was unable to inflict losses heavy enough to get a victory.
I was not ready to utilize the late game cavalry reinforcements - that's one major mistake and I thought that the initial arty and musket "pounding" was a mistake too. So this time around I went with "storm that freaking bridge right away" plan...well...it's melee phase and I can already feel the looming disaster... The attacking battalion lost almost 2 hundred men, gained enormous fatigue level, didn't break through and now it's Austrian turn to pound back with arty fire.
I'm going to continue but boy oh boy, I'm not optimistic at all!
UPD: Just barely...
Managed to get a victory, but it was a close one! At the beginning of the last turn it was still a draw. Same problem again, got all victory objectives but not enough casualties...

When exactly do you have the problem?
For me it is working fine. I have just done a clean installation of Ph1ll1 44 + new patch 4.05.1 and then apply the medicine. It is working fine. I have tested the getting started scenario and 1 turn in the main campaign.

Try to remove crack-file from the game folder.

At the beginning of the game the screen where the scenarios appear appears out of square, I start the game and approximately in game 7 or 8 of any scenario the game exits to the PC desktop

Background: PzC Smolensk '43, version 4.05, Break Towards Pavlinovo scenario.
4.05, right? Awesome new AI and all that... Let's see what happened.
Turn one, we have a standard German defensive line, bunkers protected by minefields and you guys know the drill for this type of situation - arty bombardment, engineers clearing minefields, disruption, infiltration, isolation and final assault.
But we all also know some arty units can't even scratch a bunker and here on the left flank I see an unprotected German recon unit occupying a 100pts victory objective. I'm not sure what you fellas would do, but my natural reaction was to redirect all less effective arty units and obliterate that soft and juicy target. On second turn it was all over for the reconnaissance team and then I had a chance to see that "new" AI logic in action.
Yeah, that's right, German infantry company moved out of a bunker and positioned itself at the victory objective hex. I think I don't have to explain what follows after that...Soviet 300mm MRL be like "Say hello to my little friend!"
UPD: Well, faulty AI logic ruins this scenario. There's another strong German position in the center and what you guys see on the screenshot is the third infantry company that is going to seize to exist in the near future. As soon as that 100pts victory objective hex becomes empty nearest German unit moves there abandoning fortified positions. It turns deliberate and careful planning into abuse and exploitation and I don't appreciate it a single bit.

To be honest, there is not much to be done. The full AI of this game is scripted, it has been designed like that, for that reason is so predictable after some games.
The 'AI improvements' in WDS games are just patches to cover holes, not a real AI fix. Before the updates, it was so common that AI just leaves the VP, and indeed nothing about flanking maneuvers :D. Right now, and depend of the scenario, it can develop a decent role.
JTL should have developed an AI in the same way as GG done. Yes, it has some scripts but their AI is more reactive. Arrange something like that means to remake the AI system completely. Take in account that WDS titles are using the same AI system inherited from JTL and HPS.

NAW и R1917 изначально работают без Steam. Для игр IC2 я заменил dll API Steam на Goldberg, и теперь они работают нормально без необходимости в Steam.
