Film poetry has been present in the Croatian cultural space for only a little longer than film art itself. It is primarily related to the appearance (and popularity) of film magazines. Until the appearance of Arsen Dedić, the domestic cultural public was not aware that poetry, spoken or sung, could be superb and yet everyday.
The first, and at the same time the most famous song of Arsen's poetic film library, is certainly MODERATO CANTABILE, written in 1964. sung until today, inspired by the film of the same name by Peter Brook based on the script by Marguerite Duras from 1960. His cinematic poetry covers what is truly important from the history of cinema, mapping the fundamental, questioning the unquestionable and ironizing the sure.
The book "Cinema Freedom", under the editorship of Daniel Rafaelić, presents Dedić's intimate film history, i.e. songs and poetry inspired by films published by HDA. In the book you can see movie posters as well as rare drawings by Arsen.
