In the Beginning is a good title for the record, which offers some early, lesser known material that Hendrix did in June 1966 before he formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Hendrix isn't the leader on this release's six selections. He is heard as sideman for saxophonist and vocalist Lonnie Youngblood. Although Youngblood is the leader, Hendrix is featured prominently on electric guitar.

По моему мнению самая удачная СТУДИЙНАЯ пластинка Джими... хотя почти все считают, что его на пластинке НЕТ(!), но Incredible, still sounds far out 48 years later. What must people have thought in 1966 when they'd heard this?

amy krakow: Jimmy Castor originally wrote this as a Black Power anthem. But he loved the timbales and added them, though he was a trumpet player, singer and songwriter. He wrote I Promise to Remember when he was 12 or 13, and Frankie Lymon's label owner wanted it for Frankie, so Jimmy's version went nowhere. Hey LeRoy was a huge hit in NYC, it charted nationwide on the pop and R&B charts, sold over one million copies and uses the sound and beat of Latin Bugalu, even though Jimmy was not Hispanic. There was no better song to dance to when I was in high school. Jimmy then had several huge hits in the 1970's, including a major B-Boy anthem that is featured in the movie Flashdance, followed by Troglodyte and Bertha Butt.

Энциклопедии пишут люди, и эту пластинку уже свыше 40 лет приписывают Хендриксу по инерции, не задумываясь и не вслушиваясь, хотя манера игры Хермона Хитсона узнаваема и играет он в этой манере до сих пор.

Hermon Hitson has played with some of the biggest names in music history such as Bobby Womack, Wilson Pickett, Major Lance, Jackie Wilson, The Drifters, The Shirelles, Joe Tex, The Midnighters and others. He still plays on a regular basis at local clubs is his current hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. In 2006, Hermon released his latest album entitled, "Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow." In an interview for CBS Television, Lonnie Youngblood had this to say about the material: 'You think you're buying Hendrix. You're not buying Hendrix, you're buying Lonnie Youngblood . . . even the voice, that's not Hendrix singing."
