Разобрать клинопись, которой сплошь испещрина сия бумажка, да с обеих сторон, наверное сможет лишь опытный криптограф, и то не с первого раза, так что извеняйте люди добрые ежели чо не так! А музыка, она что, кому в удовольствие, ну а кто и опплеваться ещё долго не сможет. И так, выбор за ВАМИ!
Об исполнителе (группе)
SEBKHA-CHOTT is a bunch of young French musicians, taking originality in the true sense of the word. Apart from the traditional
electric rock instrumentation, one can hear a brass section, some flute parts... And above all, the musicians took the (Good)
habit to mix all the musical styles they know. And they know a whole lot ! SEBKHA-CHOTT even created a name for its music:
"Mekanik Metal Disco". And this may even not be enough, as the enigmatic "Nagah-Mahdi - Opuscrits En Quarante-Huit Rouleaux"
(2006) is packed with salsa, samba, electro, fanfare music, reggae, experiments, classic Progressive rock... These short pieces
are packed with energy, enthusiasm and a huge sense of humour. Let's think of Frank ZAPPA, as well as of MAGMA for the musical
tension and some atmospheres. The younger audiences may also hear bits of PSYKUP. An incredible album, just amazing ! After this
successful first experience, SEBKHA-CHOTT is back with "Nigla(h) - Tapisseries Fines En XXX Strips Et LXXX Trompettes" (2008).
This new opus' music borrows from so many styles that it gets hard to define, and the musical context is not easy to embrace.
The nervous, sometimes martial, rhythms, the guttural accents, the infuriated and paroxysmic voices still remind much of MAGMA.
The brassed and leaping, dark or merry riffs relate to VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR, Jean-Paul PRAT or LE GRAND NEBULEUX. There are
also raving moments in the vein of ETRON FOU LELOUBLAN, Willem BREUKER or Slavonic music. This music is always moving, affording
every bifurcation. Quiet times are scarce, when voices, phrases or snatches from dialogs are scattered among musical themes,
creating movie soundtrack atmospheres. Other sequences with grandiloquent, lyrical, female and male voices strongly evoke Kurt
WEILL, then music goes on and louder in an exciting and compulsive sonic magma, with frenetic, Frippian and shouting guitar,
backed with a metronomic and sharp rhythm section. This shall be either adorable or unbearable. Won't you adore it ??? "De La
Persistance De La Mythologie Chottienne En ??? Cycles" (2009) is nothing but the Musea reissue of the very famous, founding,
monumental and out-of-stock "De L'Existence De La Mythologie Chottienne En Sept Cycles", re-recorded, remixed and remastered.
This album is released again on the forty-first anniversary of the 1968 events, in order to mock the usurped historicity of
these small revolutions in front of the enormity and constancy of all that was, has been, is and will be and will know. "All
that" being obviously the infinite and perpertually expanding set forming the Crou SEBKHA-CHOTT, Ohreland, its surroundings and
the Ohrelander Nomenklatura... "The Ne[xxx]t Epilog" (Musea, 2012) even adds new ingredients to the recipe, if that was
possible, namely electro, noise and indus. Incredible, but true !
Sebkha Chott was unleashed upon the world in 2000, when two aspiring students wanted to take a step outside 'normal' music
confines. Throwing etiquettes aside, we are left with one of the most varied and unexpected interbreeding of genres and musical
ideas Avant-prog has seen since Mr Bungle. For the next three years the band experienced a periodical transition encompassing
several different forms and line-up additions (bass, brass). An important annex to the band occurred with the arrival of
Mustach' Man (singer) in 2003, constituting to a wider theoretical pursuit. 2003 also saw to the release of their first full
album "De l'existence de la Mythologie Chottienne en 7 cycles", on the newly founded 'Amicale du Mekanik Metal Disco' (AMMD)
label.
With the closing of 2005 is looming its head; Sebkha Chott hit the studios to record their acclaimed 2006 album, 'Nagah Mahdi -
Opuscrits en 48 Rouleaux'. The album stylishly mashes influences oscillating between the of realms of; Frank Zappa, Magma, Mr
Bungle, Fantomas, not to mention the theatrical pomp of Monty Python. The stage/live performance shows are an occasion not to be
missed, finding themselves right at home with performing acts like Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Through theatrical improvisations
they depict their peculiar stand on a weird world populated with zany inhabitants personified by the musicians.
Switching from Metal to disco to Jazz to Soul all within the blink of an eye, Sebkha Chott is bound to appease the darkest
dreams of a Fantomas/Mr Bungle fan. But lets not pigeonhole them to this minority; if you are a fan of challenging music check
this one out. Highly recommended.
