One of 2009's biggest grime riddims finally drops on No Hat No Hoods,
backed with absolutely sick remixes from Martin Kemp and Bok Bok!!! We're
not going to hold off on the !!! marks here because this plate is just
massive. The Mario sampling '1UP', from Southampton's Royal T has been
firing up raves in the capital for the best part of the year, not to
mention countless inclusions in the sets of Vectra, DJ Magic and Logan
Sama (and the rest) on the airwaves. The hype energy of the title track is
fairly matched by the lithe snap of 'Mega' and 'Beat Fighter', but you
know we've got a man-crush on Martin Kemp and Bok Bok, (nowt personal,
their tunes just make us sweat) and they're the other reason you can't
overlook this 12". Kemp's version wires '1Up's bleeps with a swinging
percussive pattern made for all the dancefloor primates, while Bok Bok
caps off a defining run for '09 by 2-stepping between Jungle, Grime and
Funky with the sort of bass bumps and cartoonish synth squeals that excite
to dance to boiling point. Nuff said, this is outstanding.
