Anne Gastinel (andante.com)
Anne Gastinel took up the cello at the age of four, and at the same time she studied the piano and the oboe.
When she was ten she gave her first televised orchestral concert and entered the Lyons Conservatoire (CNSM). She was awarded first prize in 1986, and went on to further studies at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM). Her teachers there, Yo-Yo Ma, Janos Starker and Paul Tortelier, had a profound influence on her personal and musical development and recognised in her the maturity of an exceptional artist.
In 1989 she completed her brilliant studies, won several major international prizes (Scheveningen, Prague, Rostropovich) and began to appear all over Europe. At the age of eighteen, she was revealed to the general public when she represented France in the Eurovision Competition in Vienna, which was relayed all over the continent.
She then pursued her precocious career, which has taken her all over the world, to America and Asia, Africa and Europe, where she is invited to appear with many great conductors, including Kurt Sanderling, Emmanuel Krivine, Vladimir Spivakov, Michel Plasson, Semyon Bichkov, Pinchas Steinberg, Youri Bashmet, Max Rabinovitsj, and Lord Yehudi Menuhin.
Acclaimed in the great theatres of the world, she also applies herself to enriching her record production. Each new release is hailed by the international press and showered with awards (French Classical Music Awards 'Most Promising Young Talent 94' and 'Best Recording of the Year'; 'Fnac' Prize 1995 and 2000; Prix de l'Académie du Disque; RTL Classique d'Or 1996 and 1998; and many more).
Unanimously recognised as France's representative where the cello is the concerned, she was chosen in 1997 by Marta Casals-Istomin to receive in New York, and play for one year, the famous Matteo Gofriller that belonged to Pablo Casals.
In the year 2000 she was made honorary patron of the Lyons Chamber Music Festival . She continues to delight audiences all over the world with her performances, in which she gives priority to the pleasures of exchanging, which she regards as the very essence of music. Anne Gastinel plays a cello by Testore, made in 1690 and kindly lent to her by the Fonds Instrumental Français. Anne Gastinel records exclusively for Naïve.
