Об исполнителе (группе)
Brian Cober - Streetwise, Roadwise Blues
Brian Cober is the best friend that the slide guitar ever had. His invention of the Double Slide Guitar gives the slide a voice and range of capabilities that have never been released before and harnessed them to drive his own brand of streetwise, roadwise blues. He has captured the soul that makes one actually enjoy in a sympathetic way his confessions of heartbreaks and excesses. With his band The Nationals, Brian released 3 acclaimed CD's and backed up Bo Diddley, King Biscuit Boy, Johnny Winter, Jeff Healey and many others. When Nationals founding member Paul McNamara passed away in 2008, Brian began his solo career with a new CD "Real Far Gone". Since '08, he has played full time at clubs, Blues Society's, dances, private parties, and festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival, Bluizo Natkys Festival in Lithuania, La Chute Fest, and toured in Israel in Feb. '11. First the listener is struck by the unique sight and sound of the Double-Slide. Then Brian's mastery of the instrument becomes obvious, along with his soulful vocals and great songwriting. Whenever, and for however many, Brian Cober is a unique and uplifting musical experience. http://www.briancober.com/
Об альбоме (сборнике)
One thing is an absolute certainly about Brian Cober's new release "Real Far Gone", and that is the fact that you have never heard anyone play the guitar like Cober can. Furthermore, I doubt if you will ever hear another guitarist like him and now with his dynamic new release, "Real Far Gone", we all once again get a chance to listen to Brian Cober and his amazing guitar work, for which he has been acclaimed as "Canada's best slide guitarist." At 51 Brian Cober is as lean and fit as some people half his age. With boyish looks and a mischievous grin one gets the sense that his love and enthusiasm for music has not waned in the least, over the years. Hailing from Ontario and plying his trade for many years in the Toronto Area, Cober has made a name for himself as a Slide Guitarist Extraodinaire. Having founded the Band, The Nationals, in the 80's which put out several Albums of note, and which lasted until the untimely illness and passing of their Bassist, Paul McNamara, for whom "Real Far Gone", is dedicated today. Along with being a constant fixture in the Kensington Market area, Cober also backed up Bo Diddley on a tour in Ontario. "Real Far Gone" consists of 11 good times tracks, all written or co-written by Cober, and clocks in at just over 33 minutes, not long for most Album's out there today, but certainly entertaining enough to give you the sense it is a little longer. Besides, hitting the replay button has always been a good cure for shorter Albums, something I am sure you are going to want to do with this little dynamo. Of the 11 tracks, Cober displays his spitfire approach to Guitar prominently on at least 7 of them, especially Track 3, "A Little Bit More", which I suggest you listen to bare footed because his guitar work on that Track would knock your socks off. Speaking of his Guitar work, it should be noted that when it comes to playing that instrument, the sound is totally unique in part because of, and I quote, "conception of the "double slide", which Cober describes as "essentially the use of a main slide held by the fingers and a shorter slide on the free thumb". This along with a few modifications to the Guitar neck makes for some absolutely amazing sounds at the hands of Cober. Not all of "Real Far Gone" is devoted to his mesmerizing Guitar work. Their are a few slower soulful tunes that really give us a chance to better concentrate on not only his skill at writing songs, but also to get us acquainted with his unique vocal delivery, which is crisp and clear and proves to us all that even if Cober did not have such a great talent instrumentally, he would still be a big draw because of his other, more than worthy assets. "Real Far Gone" is a really fine Album and is certainly worth a lot more than just the Sticker Price because of Cober's Ultra Unique Guitar Style and because of that I feel quite comfortable recommending this Release. A really good effort by a exceptional Musician.
