DAMIR DIČIĆ DIČ (1938 – 2005)
This is a tribute site to Croatian jazz guitar player and composer DAMIR DICIC DICH (1938 – 2005) who suddenly past away in 2005.We like to invite everybody who knew Damir to join us in keeping memories of him alive. Of course we like to present his work to whole new generations of jazz players too.Those were two main reasons for us to set up this site. About Damir: Born in Zagreb, Croatia, started to play trumpet just to discover world of jazz guitar influenced by greats like Barney Kessell and Wes Montgomery. He started playing with small jazz bands in 60-is and traveling accross Germany, France..During 70-is he returned to Croatia where he was engaged as permanent member of Zagreb Radiotelevision Big Band. He worked often with Bosko Petrovic (B. P. Convention Big band , B. P. Convention All Stars) and played with many jazz musicians including Joe Pass, Ernie Wilkins, Atila Zoller, Albert Mangelsdorff, Erich Kleinschuster, Csaba Deseö, Buddy DeFranco, Mundell Lowe... Damir was outstanding jazz musician, composer, teacher (he wrote book "Jazz guitar 1-3"), and from 2002. he was President of Croatian Musicians Union. He received 5 "Status Awards" for the best jazz guitarist, and from 2006. that Award carries his name. NEWS: This year Dich would be celebrate his 70-th birthday. In that honor, Croatian Musicians Union, with support of Ministry of Culture of Republic of Croatia and town Zagreb is planning to release tribute CD of Dich songs.
