Alan Schechner has been playing the drums since the age of eleven. He formally studied music from junior high through college where he earned an A.A. degree in music. In addition, he took sixteen years of private lessons in technique, reading, soloing, and multiple musical styles from teaching legend Chuck Brown. This prepared him for work with Mr. Big vocalist Eric Martin, as well as numerous other pop, rock, world, Top 40, and R&B bands, and stints performing for musical theater, opera, and symphony orchestras. He was also a national finalist in the Guitar Center Drum-Off competition. A dedicated educator and performer, Alan teaches privately in San Rafael, California, and is the author of The Art Of Transcribing--Drum Set Book One, and The Art Of Transcribing--Drum Set Book Two. Alan also released an instructional DVD entitled, Coordination and Groove.
