This is a live recording by Maddy Prior, Family &Friends from her Christmas tour of 1999 at Cambridge Corn Exchange, London and Warwick.
A UNIQUE CELEBRATION OF ONE OF BRITAIN’S TRULY DISTINCTIVE VOICES.
In 1999 Maddy Prior marked 35 years in the business with a special series of live dates. Bringing together on one stage some of the remarkable musicians who had played alongside Maddy through the years, the concerts visited material from throughout her career, from her beginnings in the folk clubs of the late 60s, through the days of Steeleye and the Silly Sisters, to the ongoing collaboration with the Carnival Band, and her more recent solo work.
Maddy is joined by June Tabor (performing with Maddy for the first time in over ten years), Steeleye Span’s Peter Knight on fiddle and Rick Kemp on bass, Steve Banks (of the Carnival Band) on drums & violin, keyboard-player Nick Holland and multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley, collaborators on Maddy’s solo work since 1997, and Rose Kemp (Maddy & Rick’s daughter) – a blossoming talent on her own right.
The video combines concert footage from those three nights of musical magic with an in-depth interview giving the background to the concerts and the songs, which encompass narrative ballads and folk songs, medieval carols and Maddy’s own songs of life, love and family.
