The Fearless Flyers opened up for Vulfpeck for the latter’s landmark headlining concert on September 28, 2019 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Both bands have now released their sets as live albums, both titled Live At Madison Square Garden. Vulf’s live record arrived in late 2019. The Fearless Flyers’ is available on streaming services as well as in video format on YouTube, which is the subject of this week’s Full Show Friday.
Vulfpeck and The Fearless Flyers have close connections as the latter features Vulfpeck bassist Joe Dart as well as frequent Vulf collaborator guitarist Cory Wong. Drummer and guitarist Mark Lettieri round out the quartet.
The Fearless Flyers delivered a 12-song opening set to get the MSG crowd moving. The performance contained songs from The Fearless Flyers’ 2018 self-titled EP including the opening track “Ace Of Aces,” “Introducing The Fearless Flyers,” “Bicentennial” and more. The Flyers also delved into their 2019 release, The Fearless Flyers II, with “Swampers,” “Simon F15″ and “Hero Town,” the latter of which featured saxophonist Eddie Barbash.
Additionally, the quartet naturally delivered songs from the Vulf canon including “Barbara” (which the Flyers included on the 2018 EP) as well as “Lost My Treble Long Ago” and “The Speedwalker.” The Fearless Flyers closed out the set with their cover of Stevie Wonder’s soul classic “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours).”
