Would not say it is a thurd… just needed a proper bass guitar new recording to be re‑mixed, with some correction for the bass freqs in the original source mix.
This album desperately needed a bass guitar in the mix, not just bass freq. boost to fake a "bass guitar".
I love bass guitar growl, especially when played with fingers* (Cliff Burton's style). That's how it was recorded.
*Yes, I am aware Jason Newsted recorded it with a pick, but that is irrelevant since his playing is is barely audible in the original mix.
