Interface Changes in Finale Version 25.1
• Hyphens. Users can now choose the hyphen character for their lyrics under Document > Document Options > Lyrics.
• MusicXML. Users can now export the parts of their document to MusicXML by selecting File > Export > Linked Parts to MusicXML.
• Playback Controls.
• Finale's Playback Controls, including Tempo, can now be used while in ReWire mode.
• The Slave to ReWire Master Tempo check box has been added to the Playback Controls to allow the user to either use Finale's tempo map or their DAW's tempo.
• A Sync button has been added to the Playback Controls to update score data when using a DAW to playback.
• Repeats. Find options to determine the position of your repeat ending brackets by using the Repeat Endings dialog box in the Document Options.
• Transparency. A transparent background can now be selected in the Graphic tool's Export dialog box.
Interface Changes in Finale
• Contoured Dashed Slurs. Contoured dashed slurs are now available in the Smart Shape Palette and under Tools > Smart Shape > Dashed Slur. The previous Dashed Slur Smart Shape has been renamed to Dashed Curve and is still available in the Smart Shape Palette and under Tools > Smart Shape > Dashed Curve.
• Deprecated plug-ins. Classic Eighth Beams, Count Items, and Band-in-a-Box plug-ins have been removed.
• Garritan Ambience. Garritan Ambience has been removed. Garritan Convolution Reverb and Ambience can be added using the ARIA Player.
• Large Time Signatures. Large time signatures can be created easily with the new Time Signatures in Score and Time Signatures in Parts options in the Staff Attributes, Global Staff Attributes, and Staff Styles dialog boxes.
• Mirror tool. This tool has been removed but the user will be prompted to convert their notes.
• Movie Window. The Movie Window has been removed with the introduction of ReWire.
• MusicXML Preferences. MusicXML Preferences added to File > Import and File > Export.
• Reset All Preferences. Reset All Preferences button added to the Preferences dialog box.
• Scanning. The ability to import scanned documents has been removed from Finale.
• Tempo tool. This tool has been removed. Users can still use some of the same functions with the MIDI Tool.
• Transposed Instrument Note Entry. Transpose Audio On Input option added under MIDI/Audio > Device Setup to help aid QWERTY and mouse entry for transposed instruments.

New Features in Finale
• 64-bit. Finale and plug-ins updated to 64-bit.
• CoreGraphics. Color and image handling updated to CoreGraphics.
• Garritan Instruments for Finale. New additions include the Concert D Grand Piano from Garritan Personal Orchestra 5, recorders, dulcimer, didgeridoo, full choir, and many other sounds from the Garritan World Instruments and Instant Orchestra libraries.
• Graphics. Finale's output is now true black.
• HiDPI. Many toolbars, palettes, and dialog boxes have been updated for high resolution computers.
• Increased Human Playback processing speed.
• MusicXML
• Exported inserts from the text and expression tools quality improved.
• MusicXML now supports note shape settings in staff styles for built-in key signatures.
• Improved SmartShape export to MusicXML.
• The Measure Tool's Always Show option in MusicXML Export has been improved.
• MusicXML export supports default Percussion Noteheads font and Jazz font characters 150 through 157.
• MusicXML exports laissez-vibrer tie shape expressions and tied notes followed by rests correctly.

Accidentals
• Finale is able to hide unwanted accidentals across layers.
Human Playback
• If a ritardando has been assigned to a repeat at the end of a piece, checking Final Barline in Human Playback preferences only affects the final pass.
Keyboard Shortcuts
• Keyboard shortcuts for the Lyrics window's Text menu work correctly.
Measure Number Regions
• Choosing Display as Frames under Measure > Edit Measure Number Regions > Style > Time only draws one instance of the time.
Measure Tool
• Measure tool handles no longer appear when selecting a new tool.
MusicXML
• Files with slurs referencing non-existing starting measures export to Finale and re-import into Finale with all slurs intact.
• MusicXML export succeeds when percussion instruments have unassigned playback.
• Processing instructions are now included when logging is turned on during Finale MusicXML batch export.
• MusicXML does not export a tempo of 0 from expressions.
• MusicXML imports Sibelius percussion notes on the correct staff lines.
Open
• After opening multiple files, Finale maintains the original directory when choosing File > Open.
Playback Controls
• Rewind to Beginning respects the Leftmost measure setting.
Playback Cursor
• The playback cursor is no longer misaligned when Finale launches with the Staff or Repeat tool selected in ReWire mode.
Preferences
• The Default Document choice in Preferences - New is retained after restarting Finale.
ReWire
• Default MIDI Output Device Memory Error no longer appears when launching Finale as a ReWire Slave with a MIDI keyboard connected.
• Finale no longer freezes when entering notes with Simple Entry after the ReWire host has been closed.
Score Manager
• Changing instruments in the Instrument List does not freeze or crash Finale.
SmartMusic Markers
• Clicking Done in the SmartMusic Markers dialog box no longer crashes Finale.
Transpose MIDI on Input
• The correct note is now played or entered when using a simplified key signature in a transposing staff.
Fixes in Finale
Articulations
• Unlinked articulations maintain their positioning after saving and reopening a file.
Chord Tool
• The Chord Tool's MIDI input correctly identifies an augmented triad.
Document Options
• Show Active Layer Only no longer removes all beat chart edits in a file.
Document Setup Wizard
• Always Use this Document Style With the Selected Ensemble in the Setup Wizard no longer produces the "document style can't be found" error message.
• Ensembles containing Unicode characters can now be deleted.
Dulcimer
• The dulcimer's diatonic instrument definition has been corrected.
Filter
• Percussion notes no longer copy into other staves when the filter is set not to include notes.
FinaleScript
• Finale no longer crashes on launch when text style FinaleScript is in the FinaleScript folder.
Graphics
• Exported EPUB and SVG files do not exhibit clipping.
Human Playback
• Repeated notes play correctly when HP (Incorporate Data) is selected for Start/Stop Time for Human Playback and when using the Jazz Human Playback style.
• Continuous glissandos are realized for chains greater than two notes in length.
Keyboard Shortcuts
• New keyboard shortcut (SHIFT+CTRL+\ (Backslash)) for top alignment of graphics and text blocks.
Korean Font
• Text using a Korean titled font in a Korean version of Windows are properly loaded when reopening a file.
Measures
• Finale no longer crashes when opening files with dangling measures.
MusicXML
• MusicXML export no longer crashes with 1-line tab mixed with percussion in a group.
• Piano pedals export properly on the bottom staff of a part in addition to the 2nd staff of a part.
• Line breaks in score name insert are properly exported to MusicXML.
• Expressions from MusicXML exported Finale files are no longer duplicated when imported back into Finale.
• MusicXML exports a staff element in a multi-staff part for custom lines with a character line style.
• MusicXML exports the default notehead correctly when it is selected with the Note Shape tool.
Note Types
• Copying partial measures in a percussion staff no longer results in lost note types.
Page Breaks
• Page breaks are preserved when inserting a measure stack in a score.
Page Layout
• Select All in Edit System Margins works correctly.
PDFs
• Finale no longer creates individual PDF files when something is selected within the document.
• Canceling within the Print to XPS/PDF Save dialog no longer cause Finale to become unresponsive.
Percussion Layout
• Kenong instrument uses correct Percussion Layout.
PostScript
• Repeat wings draw correctly in PostScript.
Saving
• Saving a .musx file no longer overwrites original .mus file.
Score Merger
• Documents created with Score Merger are able to display up to 9,999 measures per measure region by default.
Shape Designer
• Nudging while creating shapes in the Shape Designer now functions.
Simple Entry
• Flipping stems shortcut (L) in Simple Entry works correctly without having to press the key multiple times.
Speedy Entry
• Flipping stems shortcut (L) in Speedy Entry works correctly without having to press the key multiple times.
Text
• Right justification in the Text menu works quickly and no longer crashes Finale.
Ties
• Ties going into the last measure of a document containing a whole note no longer crashes Finale.
Tremolo Crash
• Timpani tremolo no longer causes crash during playback.
