Since it's introduction, the new Windows XP OS was a thorn for USAF. Here is one man's resolution of the problem. The procedure is not known to work with Professional version.

Terminator uses XP with USAF and he's happy with it. Here is the post he put in our messageboard in regards to this very problem:
"My system is running WinXP Home, so I don't know if this will work or not. The first place I tried was Microsoft's XP home website and downloaded all the available updates, I don't know which ones by name. It was very automated, much like the Windows update in Win98SE. Just had it install everything, I figured since I had a 40 GB HD, I had room to spare. I next went to the website for the graphics card I put in (Elsa Gladiac MX 32MB), and downloaded and installed the latest WinXP home drivers. I did this for all the major system components (sound card, joystick, mouse, etc.). There is a lot of good message board posts on the different websites (SimHQ, Mad Onion, etc.). After this was all done, I had no problems running USAF. I know from reading a lot of message board posts, that I was lucky. Most people are having major problems, and can't get it to work at all. Hopefully this is helpful." - Terminator
