Inspired by classic roots-era Jamaican dub, the tracks feature the Catch Me Time All-Stars including Tony Chin, Zacky Bernard, Mike Irwin and Mystery Man. These are hard and heavy dub versions of songs from Perseverance and newer songs not yet released.
Chuck Foster hosts Reggae Central on KPFK in LA. He wrote the Reggae Update column for Beat Magazine for two decades and is the author of Roots Rock Reggae: An Oral History of Reggae Music From Ska To Dancehall (Billboard Books, 1999) and The Small Axe Guide To Rock Steady (Muzik Tree/2009). In 2012 he produced the various artist all female vocal and dub set We Roots issued on Catch Me Time Records. In 2013 he released his first solo cd, Perseverance. Conscious Dub offers dub mixes of eight of the songs from Perseverance and four new songs from a forthcoming project. Mixed by Mike Irwin and Chuck Foster at Rough Sounds studio in Southern California, the dubs are hard and heavy and inspired by the roots dub mixes of the seventies and feature real instruments played by real musicians recorded in real time.
